that age of car will likely have the timing chain and/or hesitation issue so you'll need to budget at least £2k for those to be sorted

also it'll have the dual grilles, so if it were me i'd be spending another £750 getting the front end done (and then more sorting out the rear end so it's all S-Lined up)

alternative would be the get a slightly later car, or an early GTI which i'd prefer tbh

Don't worry, I'm not going to buy it, I just couldn't believe how cheap it is, but from what you're saying, now I know why!  :happy2:

If I wanted a 4x4 hatch, I'd go for a MK4 R32, and scratch the itch I've had since 2003! I know they're flawed, but I love them, and prefer them over the  MK5 R32 all day long. Long term it's a Golf R, but it'll be a few years before they are at my budget of 14K.  :sad1:

There's quite a few Rs below £23k now. They seem to have absolutely plummeted in value. I'd give it another 18 months tops and I'd reckon there will be a few you can afford :happy2:

How quick are these as standard? What's the in-gear acceleration like?

But pretty irrelevant. I imagine the 30-70 and 50-70 times are slower than a MK5 GTI...

Where, I can't find one under £23k in GB (there's one in Ireland), please point me in the right direction as I'm looking for one...
