highline cluster fitted, revs are inaccurate

Fitted my highline cluster a few weeks back and after driving it for a bit, i felt as if the revs werent accurate. Both my old cluster and new highline ones both go up to 6k rpm.

Ive done a check with vcds in measuring blocks and seen it is far off, when the dials showing 1000 revs, vcds shows just over 1300. when the dial shows 1500 revs, vcds shows around 2000 revs.

as far as i know, the cluster was from a jetta tdi.  Is there any way of recalibrating this?

In 17-Instruments when you do Output Tests, for the revs does it start at 0 go to 6000 then settle at 3000?

Have the needles been removed before?  If it seems the needle is out of phase, so you can move it almost full circle by hand (anti-clockwise) to where it should be.

However from what you suggest the 'out' figure is not linear, so are there any other signs that the clocks may have come from a petrol, with a diesel insert being used?

Have you got a full part number?
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

when i first got it, the rev needle wasn't at 0. it was just below 0. so i opened it up, winded it anticlockwise to 0

the part number is 1K0 920 971 C

It did say on the back of it in a white marker "jetta tdi"

Im going to do the output test tommorrow on it and confirm what happens

I Had a 1K0 920 971C Cluster a while back and it was from a Petrol enigine (Red line @ 5800) and from the US market

Yep eddie is correct. 971C is a petrol cluster so someones put TDI dials on it!

Only real solution is to get a different set of clocks. Fiddling with calibration in EEPROM etc is a shot in the dark and will probably ruin your clocks.

Or. If you dont mind being a bit handy, swap the revs for a dial from a petrol reading to 8k rpm.

thanks for the info. i think best thing would be to leave it at the minute and maybe look for a new set of clocks. I thought there would have been a way to recalibrate the clocks using vcds, but i think going into the eeprom is too long of a process.

Pretty sure I have a 1k0920971D knocking around at my other house.

Miles set to zero and has the SKC with it.

It is for a diesel. Pretty sure itll work on manual or auto (and display gears) . I cant tell for sure as Iv got a manual. But 99% sure its for both auto/manual.
