Head unit swap
« on: May 15, 2012, 02:37:15 pm »
Guys, can anyone confirm if I can replace my MFD2 for an RCD/RNS 510 without changing the CANbus or anything else?  The car is a MY2007 Golf GT with highline display.  Also, am I right in thinking the difference between the RCD and RNS is the later has Sat Nav?

Cheers, Lee.

No way of knowing if you will get Battery drain however i haven't seen a 2007 reg car with a lower than K revision Gateway so you "should" be ok.

Otherwise it is a straight swap

Yes only difference is RNS is Satnav (Radio Navigation System vs Radio Compact Disc)  :happy2:

Our Altea (not a Golf, I know) is an 07 and has the K gateway with 0170 software and should(?) suffer from battery drain, whereas a K with 0178 software is the first of the compatible versions, I believe.

Only way to check is a scan and the software version is shown in 19-CAN Gateway

Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)
