Remap Exaust System Warning Light
« on: May 09, 2009, 09:50:40 pm »
I had my Pirelli edition Revo remapped today, I have just put my foot down pulling on to the motorway and the exaust system light started flashing, obviously this came at quite a surprise so i dropped back to about 60 and after about 2 mins it went away and has not returned?  :scared:

Has anyone any experience on this? As you can imagine with a car that has less than 10K on the clock it is a little concerning as it has happend so quickly after the remap.

I will return it to the remap garage later in the week, and then post a proper review!!

Much appreciated!!

Was it just the stage 1 map you had?

And do you have any other mods?

PS - I have moved the thread to the main section so more people will see it  :happy2:

Do you know what your REVO settings are? Do you have access to VCDS?

I have just had a stage 01 and no other mods (yet).

The settings on the Revo were:- boost = 6,   Fuel = 8,   and Timing = 4,

Unfortunately I do not have access to a VCDS.

The fuel is sainsbury's 99 ron.

Fuel may be your problem mate?
Thought Sainsburys only did 97Ron? Try a trip to the nearest Tescos for some 99, every little helps...

have a look here
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=772.0

were your settings tested or just set after mapping with no Rolling Road session?

You need VAGCOM to be able to read the fault code (which will still be stored even though the lights gone off)
as well as to log things like timing pull to see if the REVO settings you have are suitable for your car.

Either the settings are off and need tweaking or the map has highlighted a weakness in your car (coilpack etc)

Cheers chaps,

The Car was not remapped on a rolling road, but the garage took it out post remap to check it out. ( a lesson learned!!)

The petrol looks like a potential issue, I have only driven ~15 miles since the remap and only booted it 5 or6 times.

The car was not up to 90deg it was about 75 when it happend.

I will get a VAGCOM investigation asap.

Don't know if the ed30 engine is different but they are the default settings for normal unleaded. 6,5,9 are settings for superunleaded although 6,6,9 is becoming quite common now and giving very good results

Ok, firstly Exhaust has an 'H' in it!

I took the car back to the tuners AMD in Woking and to be fair they have been a great support and service throughout  the process. Basically the car had been misfiring near the redline. The root cause is due to the VW revision of software on the ECU, there was a period last year of about 3 months where the last of the ED30 and Pirelli editions had the latest VW software, this causes a problem with Revo remaps, the latest 09 plate MK6 Golfs have had this fixed. In essence the fix was to load the latest VW ECU software.

Thanks for all the help!

And  I have stopped buying Sainsburys Performace petrol  :ashamed:

Were you using the tuner "Mega 4" in Woking?

Yeah, if you run it on 99 octane fuel such as Shell or Tesco, then you will be able to bring the timing up a bit, obviously with VAGCOM logs to make sure that the car is still running ok.

i believe i had this exact error not 3 weeks ago, got it cleared but took my revo settings down a notice... if this is tru, then i need this fixing.

Who flashed ur ecu to latest software? i assume once that was done they put REVO on top?

Revo\dealers should know about this!!!

I imagine this is probably going to be true for all remaps - I had exactly the same problem on my ED30, bought June '08, manufactured March '08 ........  hmmmmmmmmm ......

So, what was the fix - am I understanding this correctly, they updated your software with mk6 GTi software ?
