Silicone hoses, cheapest/best?
« on: May 20, 2009, 05:58:37 pm »
When I had my GTI serviced a few weeks ago the techie told me there was a slight boost leak from one of the intercooler hoses. I asked if it needed replacing sooner rather than later keeping in mind the slightly higher than standard boost pressure my car runs at and he said it was minor but maybe look into having it done at the next service unless it gets any worse in the meantime.
He said a new one would be about £50 plus fitting.

Going into my usual mode of 'uprate it if it's worn out' I guess it's time to start thinking about doing the whole lot so a silicone hose kit will sooner or later be hitting my credit card.
I'm not going to do the kit yet as 1) I'm skint because my wife is throwing a fortune at the house at the moment and 2) I'm not using the car at the moment owing to the work on the house.

So, who's doing the best deals on a hose kit?
I remember Lee (chungster) doing the review on the SFS kit a couple of weeks ago, and then there's Forge I guess, anything else to throw into the mix?

I suspect all you'll really need is to replace the O rings for the hose coupler to fix the leak. Not sure if VW sell the O rings seperately though.
Without traction power is nothing!
