Tesco 99 Ron
« on: May 26, 2012, 07:18:50 pm »
I had a 5p off per litre from tesco a few weeks ago so decided to try their 99 fuel.

About halfway through the tank I Noticed a massive improvement in the way the car pulls and also managed to get 350 miles to a tank compared to the usual 300.

I filled up with v power as usual this week and this weekend the car just doesn't feel the same also at 250 miles and will need to fill up soon

Have scanned my car for fault codes but there isnt any

Can 1 Ron really make this much difference? or am I paying v power prices for normall unleaded at shell?

I will be filling up with tescos finest again this week to see if it is the fuel

On another note I have noticed that at shell unleaded has dropped by 5p per litre here in the last week but v power is only down by 1p

Probably the old optimax I was thinking of

They dont seem to put the Ron rating on the pumps anymore

Maby it's the quality of the additives but you would think the most expensive fuel at the pumps would be the best

They are both 99RON now (unless abroad and vpower is 102RON iirc)

I use both and tbh I can't tell any difference, but then my car is standard. I used to put V-power in religiously but as I either have to pay a toll there and back to the nearest station or a 35mile round trip I now use Momentum as its on the way to work and was 135.9 this week, cheaper than vpower. But if I'm away somewhere if shell is nearer than a tesco then I'll use it

After using Tesco 99 for months I have now swapped over to V Power.  I have noticed a slight increase in mpg over the tesco fuel.

I have a standard '05 gti.  My run to work is 10 miles and would get 34 or 35 mpg with tesco 99 and now I am easily getting 37, sometimes 38.

I think the car feels a tad quicker too.

I always have heard that supermarket fuel is of a lower quality than that of the branded companies like shell or bp.  I was told that when the big tanker ships are quality checked, if the fuel isnt quite right, like the s.g., it is sold at a lower price to the likes of the supermarkets.  The fuel is still good, but of a lesser quality.  Whether this is entirely true I' not sure.

I've always found v-power gave the car more oomph but Tesco 99 gave me better mpg.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Maby it's just a bad batch of v power

I had a faulty DV up untill last weekend when I had 3/4 tank of tesco99 and noticed an improvement But initially put it down to the DV, But this weekend with under quarter  a tank of v power it just doesn't feel the same.

Think I'll do my next 2 tanks with tesco again and the 2 after that with v power to get a proper comparison

It's a bit out of my way to get the tesco fuel as shell is just round the corner from work but another shell 2 miles from that one is slightly cheaper but Due to the traffic not worth going to

i used to think that V-Power gave me better mpg but considering i use them interchangably and it would take 2-3 tanks for the car to adjust i don't think there's anything in it really

there's a Tesco petrol station (2 actually) on the way to work, with the cheapest petrol i've seen in months. if i need V-Power there's one on the way to my gym, so i still use them basically interchangably.

Had my ED30 since October and it gets 1 tank of V Power to about 2 or 3 Tanks of Momentum 99 and can honestly say there is no noticeable difference between them, only diff you notice is in your wallett, especially if you have a 5p litre voucher for 99 (In which case its about £3 a tank full difference  :happy2:)   :driver:

I find tesco 99 to be better. always find i get terrible mpg on v-power and the car just doesn't seem to run the same.
plus v-power tends to be 5-8p more expensive than tesco 99.
Shark Performance Stage 1, itg intake, 3"downpipe decat,  miltek cat back,

Im leaving it standard..... Honest
