K03 Stage 2+ requirements
« on: May 27, 2012, 07:19:11 pm »
Another 'what parts do I need?' thread in respect of Stage 2+ for a K03 - with a slight twist in terms of the exhaust, which I cannot find answered from past threads/search.

Car currently runs Revo Stage 1, ITG intake, Forge Twintercooler and a Blue Flame backbox delete pipe. Going to purchase an APR HPFP and either Milltek or Pipewerx d/pipe & sports cat in the very near future.

Question is regarding the exhaust and K03 Stage 2+, as the car would be running uprated downpipe, into standard resonator and then into the backbox delete (i.e. no aftermarket CBE). Would Stage 2+ be able to run with the usual efficiency with this exhaust setup (i.e. 280bhp/320ft/lbs)?

Is an aftermarket cat back system essential to run a 'full fat' Stage 2+? I was under the impression that the system was not particularly restrictive from the cat back, and that the main reason for purchase for a little more noise....

Many thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice.

Cheers  :happy2:

depends on who you ask as to what's needed with Stage 2+

on the Revo website it says required equipment on K03 cars is CAI, TBE, HPFP and intercooler

but the general rule of thumb is CAI, sports cat DP (or decat), HPFP. intercooler is considered a "recommended" mod, but not essential.

in terms of your exhaust, air flow is limited by the most restrictive part of your system. in this case, it'll be the OEM centre. BUT most of the restrictions are in the DP, so you should be fine. Nick at R-Tech even said to me that DPs are a waste of time, and that cutting out the OEM cat and replacing it with a generic 100 cell sports cat is enough.

tbh if you're wanting to push your car to the absolute limit, an intercooler and full TBE would be recommended. but if you're not bothered, you should be fine.

Gareth I'm no expert, but I've read a lot of threads where guys have run a DP/SC with the standard cat back (the Americans do it all the time). The cat back will give you 3/4bhp gains (plus some more sound).

I very much doubt it would effect the running of the map at all - also if you went down the custom route we discussed the other week they would consider all the mods on your car

The pipewerx one will mate to your standard cat back no problems as it has a built in reducer and from what I have seen / read they seem very well built and I don't think I've heard of a single failure

Miltek on the other hand is more expensive and will require a reducer. Although it has a lifetime warranty, they have been known to fail

Both will give you the same gains  :happy2: if it was my choice (may well go down this route in future) I would take the pipewerx - £499 off eBay  :happy2:

cheers for the rapid reponses guys  :happy2:

I'm not a fan of the Milltek tax (and potential welding problems) and am leaning towards the pipewerx d/p & sports cat. One of my mates is a mechanic (but not a 'tuner'), so i'd get him to fit the d/p - would any warnings or CEL show prior to the final map being flashed?

I'll give JKM a call tomorrow to discuss the Revo options on doing this, and may call R-Tech for their opinion (and potentially a quote on a custom map)

custom map from R-Tech costs £390 (listed on their website). they need your car for a week tho.

200 cell is unlikely to show up a light, 100 cell is more likely going to show up a light

that's what they told me for Stage 2+, yeah. i can't have my car off the road that long, that's why mine hasn't had a map yet  :driver:

the Stage 2+ map does include a DSG remap tho which might be part of the reason it takes longer
