No engine light?!?
« on: June 01, 2012, 01:09:34 pm »
Hi guys

I have notuiced I don't seem to get a engine light on startup (i.e. for test purposes). I have EPC but not the engine?

Anyone else experienced this?

Also my car has a v.annoying stutter on idle. I got it scanned and had #2 misfire, so changed the coil pack and plugs and that cleared the code but not the fluctuation on idle. if you raise the revs above 1k it lessens, and it is not noticeable whilst driving. It seems like a fueling issue but.....?

Any ideas?

Have you replaced your PCV valve? 1st thing I would change if your having poor idle quality. Only £35 from the dealers .

This may not apply to you but some unsavoury sellers internally cover up warning lights so that they are not seen as being lit when looking at the dashboard. This way the unwary buyer doesn't know that a fault is present.

There is a bulb behind the dials for the engine light you need to check if that is still there or has it been removed... Very unlikely but it may have fused

this...

in a moment 'stupidity' before i bought my golf i sold my 2000 1.5 E Almera for a 'nice' 56 Nissan Note... it had its engine management light, ABS and airbag lights taped over... i only realised after i plugged in an OBD reader and it flagged up a load of errors! car had been Cat D twice! managed to get back what i paid for it in part exchange for the golf so all good...

always check for the lights!

Not sure it wasn't working when I bought it tbh. It's normally something I fastidiously check. (so I either forgot, which is unlikely, or it was working)

She is in the garage at the mo, trying to sort engine shake, they have changed Intake Flap valve which helped but did not completely cure. They have swapped over injectors and said a missfire followed the swap....new injector looks to cure it i guess.
