Tornado Red & Stone Chips
« on: May 30, 2012, 05:03:55 pm »
Hi all

Wondering if there is a good chip repair/ touch up kit which can be recommended for Tornado Red GTi?

Was thinking about Chipex but given that it’s not cheap and results require a lot of practice and patience – is there a better alternative?

(P.s. don’t have the skill or patience for wet sanding or anything similar)

Go direct to VW. They sell a touch up stick which includes the colour and clear coat.
I brought one for my black gti and it does a very good job at hiding the chips.
Cheap too at approx £7.99 :-)

Is this a conventional "blob on" type?

I was hoping something a bit smarter. i.e. like chipex but less difficult?

dr color chip (yes color spelt correctly)

do a google and you will find them, website looks a bit amatuer and ropey but ive bought from these guys many times, arrives from USA just as quick as it does from london, and the stuff is amazing.... for example i had severe road rash on an evo 8 bonnet (as they do) in carbon black with the weird purple fleck, and this stuff worked amazingly, i have pics somewhere... slap the chip paint on (no need to be careful), wait a while, use the solution to then just rub all over the area and its done. used it on a few different cars with great results.
i dont need it for my TR golf yet, but ill be buying a kit from them i guess

I always find using a modellers paint brush to apply the touch up paint is far better and controlable than the big brush supplied :happy2:
