Tinted Windows
« on: June 02, 2012, 05:05:08 pm »
After abit of advice really I have a 2005 golf gti with the blue factory fitted windows. I want to get the three back windows lightly tinted, however I've seen a few posts about a white line around the edge of the windows once they have been tinted.
is this problem apparent in 3 dr and 5 dr models? also would like to see some pics of a 3 door golf gti with rear tints if anyone has them.

Many Thanks in advance

I would stick with the cool blue tints mate. Wish they had kept them on all GTI's. :sad1:

When tinting using a film, you'll notice the white dotted line on the 3 door's rear passenger windows more than you would on the 5 door passenger windows, that's for sure.

However, as for the rear windscreen, you'll notice the white lines will look the same regardless of whether you have either the 5 door or 3 door variant.

The only other option to avoid the white lines is to purchase factory tinted glass, albeit the much more expensive route!

I do like the blue tint, just think that a slightly darker tint would look quite good too

Loved the blue on the early Mk5's, wish they had carried on with those.  :sad1:
Anyway, keep as is, they look great IMHO!!

The white line is called the matrix. once the tint has been on for a 2-3 days rub your thumb around the edges and it will varmoosh to a reasonable level, have all my windows tinted a light smoke and they look ace.

Another option is to go for the Blinds  :happy2:

You can pop em in and out in seconds and the fit is Amazing  :notworthy:

Well it is on my German Windsea blinds

Unlike the Palm blinds mine come with a 1piece rear blind (I didn't like the 2piece palm blinds, with the strip down the middle)  :ashamed:

I've not got many photo's of em on the car, but this was when I unboxed em  :happy2:

was just reading your build thread funnily enough. do you have any close up of the rear windows. I wasnt planning on doing the front 2 windows. do you think the light smoke and blue would look offkey?

^^^^ WOW!!  :notworthy: That really does look like a much more expensive car than a Golf. Smucking fart! It must be the OZ wheels

Back on topic, mine has the factory original blue but I have added a graded blue sunstrip internally:
