More than likely 3M pink primer then a 3M metal sealer.

Check the price, also check the price of a new roof skin putting on the car?? you could purchase the sunroof roof skin and have it grafted in I've seen the full sunroof in breakers go for less than £100 it would just be a straight bolt in and wire up.

I like RR really rate the Mk5 sunroof.

It was my first option ticked when my Ed30 was ordered and used it only moments after collecting the car.
So when I was toying with an Ed35 a few months back the spec for me was again gonna have a sunroof.

If you follow the Webasto route would be intersted to see pictures tho.

The only thing I don't like about any sunroof (was the same on my Beemer) are the pressure waves built-up at slightly higher speeds when the sunroof is fully open. As I'm sure most of us know, the way to release that pressure (which sounds like you have a helicopter permanently hovering over your car) is to drop all your windows (on a 5-door) just an inch. But then you get lots of road noise. I'm hoping that the Climair Wind Deflectors will reduce the noise while still releasing the cabin pressure.

Apparently Climair offer a deflector for the roof itself.

OK now I know this hasn't been done to a golf, but a much smaller Toyota iQ. If you follow the link, you'll see the installation of a Webasto unit.

I been looking at doing the OEM roof installation, but not sure of the exact differences between the roof panels apart from the hole? Does anyone know? I have googled, but info is thin on the ground. Everyone just says don't do it. I want to get a black headlining, but I have only found ones for the sunroof.

Not to troll the thread, but I'm genuinely curious what the attraction of a sunroof is.

If two otherwise identical cars were available as options, I'd take the one without the sunroof. I prefer the extra headroof (though not an issue in the Golf), the reduced chance of leaks, less weight (at the worst position on the car), and I don't care for the noise when the roof is open. When it is sunny the increased solar gain to the cabin is unwanted, and when it's cold it's another condensation source.

Similarly another friend recently bought a car and had a choice of two more or less identical cars, and without my knowledge decided on the one without a sunroof, as he didn't see the point.

The only time I used a sunroof to much effect, was at uni when a friend thought it would be funny to get naked and for me to drive her through the centre of town stood through the sunroof with her boobs on show.   For about 30 minutes I was very much in favour of a sunroof.

The attraction of a sunroof is you can open it and let the sunshine in   :signLOL:

Agreed. I used to love having the roof open in my M3 on those rare sunny days stuck on the M25 enjoying the sunshine that came through. Also when going through a tunnel I would open all the windows and the roof and let the sound of that awesome straight 6 come pouring in from all angles. Man I miss that. Anybody wanna buy a Jetta????? :jumping:

So why not buy a convertible or folding hardtop if that's so important?

I'm not convinced!  :P
