Retro-fit Webasto Sunroof for Mk5 Golf

I really miss the sunroof I had in my old Mk4 V64Motion. It's the only dislike I have on my MK5.

I wondered if you could get a retro-fit one done, and was pleased to see that Webasto do them. They offer several designs, but this is the one for an OEM look for the MK5 Golf. I'd really appreciate opinions and/or experiences of anyone who has been down this route before. I've requested pricing from 3 dealers, so will update this thread when I get them.

They are the World's best with sunroofs, so I reckon I'll trust 'em. I wouldn't fancy it though either!  :scared:

Webasto kit is the dogs, but it comes down to the person fitting it. Ideally you want to check some of their work first.

I think that a sunshine roof is great.

It sounds to me that Webasto can be trusted and doubtless give warranty. Cutting bodywork (or carbon) is really no problem unless you have never done it before and are DIY on your drive at home. use an established expert fitter.

Is the OEM made by Webasto or is the Webasto better than the OEM?

She knows I want one! It all depends on price really Robin. I have requested prices from 3 Surrey Webasto suppliers/fitters recommended on the Webasto site, so will have to wait and see. Don't worry, there's no danger of me having a crack at it myself! I can barely pump my own tyres up!  :grin:

I'm not sure if Webasto do the VAG sunroofs or not. I know they are excellent though, best in the business. They do some real  high-end work, including the tin-tops on both the 458 Spider and McLaren MP4-12C convertible. A brand to be trusted, for sure.  :happy2:

They look very good and as mentioned OEM in appearance. Miss my sunroof, any idea of a ball park price? All i know is that i wouldn't want to be there to witness someone cutting a hole in the roof of my car!!

Webasto have been involved with VWs for years , they done the fabric sunroofs on early Beetles.

If its really spoiling your enjoyment of the car THAT much , then why not? Webasto do OEM stuff for VW (the Sliding roof cassette that you can buy aftermarket is probably similar to the one they send to VW's Wolfsburg factory! VW , like 99% of other marques , will outsource sunroofs to a supplier - they also make the glass sunroof in the cabrio top of the Eos)

Will do.  :happy2: As Sheryl Crow sang "you don't know what you've got till it's gone". In my case, a sunroof!!
If it's loads of money, I've noticed that E46 M3's are now well  in budget. Quite a lot of those have a sunroof, or I could get a convertible for 9K with 55K!! :drool:
