How to get polish off plastics
« on: June 04, 2012, 12:29:11 pm »
We've had SWMBO's new car for a few days now and with the recent rain whatever the dealer put on the plastics has come off to reveal a healthy amount of polish residue on them.

So my questions is, what is the best stuff to get this off with?? Also I normally use AG bumper care on the GTI to keep the plastic looking good but I find it a bit messy and gunky and was wondering what else I could use as an alternative??

I hate AG bumper care.

I normally use some kind of APC and a stiff brush - my preferred is Meg's Triple Duty brush. Others swear on a pencil eraser.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I usually use AG Vinyl and Rubber Care sprayed onto a cloth and wiped on , or Meguiars Tech Protectorant. I dont know if it would remove polish but its miles better than the green gooey Bumper Care , Ive never used that for years - far too messy!

something that has worked in the past for me, was using window cleaner and toothbrush on the plastic.

Once cleaned off, I use luke warm Linseed oil on the plastic. Keeps black for months. Always gives the nice wet sheen too.
