Detail My Ride - Tornado Red GTI
« on: June 05, 2012, 10:52:26 pm »
Hi Chaps,

Apologies for lack of write ups, am trying to catch up and keep up as best I can!

Following a recommendation the owner of this 2005 Tornado Red Golf GTI bought the vehicle for us to take a look at the paintwork and overall condition. It was clear the paintwork had previously had some bad smart repairs, and that overall the paintwork was dull, swirled and lifeless and certainly in need of some TLC!

We agreed to carry out a full enhancement detail, including interior detail. We also replaced the corroded wheel bolt covers with a fresh set from VW which finished off the recently refurbished wheels a treat!

The process carried out as follows (unfortunately little in the way of progress pics due to time constraints!)

- Wheels cleaned using AS Smart Wheels, vikan/lambswool brushes
- Tyres/arches cleaned using AS G101, vikan brushes
- Citrus pre-wash via foam lance, to remove loose debris/dirt, high pressure rinse
- Bodywork, door shuts etc washed using Dodo Juice Born to be Mild, 2BM and lambswool mitts
- Bodywork/wheels decontaminated using Iron X/Tardis, followed by clay with Auto Finesse grey
- Some light wet sanding required using Meguiars Unigrit 2000/3000/4000 papers to refine previous paintwork blend following bad repairs
- Paintwork corrected using Meguiars MF DA System, some areas receiving several hits to correct deeper RDS. Paintwork was then cleansed using Dodo Juice Lime Prime prior by DA prior to waxing.
- Paintwork was waxed using Dodo Juice Orange Crush wax
- Wheels lightly polished by hand, sealed using Mint Rims
- Tyres, plastics and rubbers dressed with Car Pro Perl, glass cleaned, exhaust/chrome polished
- Full interior detail, include mats/carpets clean, fabrics, plastics etc, glass cleaned

Here's how the car looked on arrival:

Iron X bought out a fair amount of contamination:

Once washed, decontaminated and pulled inside it was clear to see what we were dealing with!

50/50

Thanks for looking, comments/questions etc welcome! More on the way!

Great work Nath  :notworthy:

I'm really envious. You work with some great cars everyday whether it's detailing or selling them. Your passion for motors really shows mate.

Thanks for allowing us to work on the car Carl!  :happy2:

Sorry I wasn't there when you collected it. Did Gaz tell you to bring it back in at some point for me to go over the chips for you?

That looks brilliant! My TR could do with similar - may I ask roughly how much a detail like that would cost?
VCDS cable HEX-USB+CAN. New but can do the basics including coding
