It's been over 30 days since I had a successful inspection and claim submitted.. still waiting to hear back.. apparently there's a back log.

So....

It's now been 49 days.. rang every week since hitting 30 days "can take up to 30 days to hear something"...

Body shop tells me they're still waiting to hear back but chasing.. Yawn!! Pathetic.

I'm in exactly the same situation as above. Took my car in to my local VW bodyshop in late July, and still have heard nothing back! I've called many, many times, to be told that 'they have a large backlog', 'we're really busy at the moment' etc... might be time for an email/call to VW UK I think.

Yes, same story I get, there's a backlog. Also been told that because the car is over 10yrs old they've had to apply to something above and beyond the usual, however my understanding was it was 12yrs Warranty.. anyway didnt get into the debate.

Least I know it isn't just me getting the tale and the wait...

I was considering the email to VW UK also.. testing my patience, but hoping it will be worth it.

Although the corrosion warranty is for 12 years, VW claim that the common issue with rusting front wings is due to a 'paint defect', and is not covered under their corrosion warranty. Any warranty work is therefore 'goodwill' on the part of the dealership. A load of rubbish in my opinion, it's quite clearly a manufacturing defect but that's the explanation my dealership have given me for considering it differently. I think persistence and a gentle suggestion to VW UK that customer service has been less than ideal should do the trick at this point.

Just wanted to clarify on this, there was an official VW bulletin to all dealerships regarding the rusty wings in November 2009. It's very hard for them to argue it's not an issue - although if you've rust on the sills too, this was not recognised! Just persevere. The bulletin can be found here; http://www.stuartdalby.co.uk/vwgolfmk5/rust_wing/2009Nov9CorrosionToGolkMk5FrontWing.pdf

I had mine done last year along with the sills FOC (even had a car for the week!)

The rust isn't a paint defect, it's due to foam that sits behind the panel and collects moisture.

Thanks for the clarification for all those not in the know.

Sounds like grounds for a claim to me pal. Sooner you bring it up with them the better.

I headed to my local VW and said I wanted to make a claim on the bodywork. They rang their offsite bodyshop and put me through, inspection was arranged for 3 days later...

With a successful inspection a claim will be submitted by the bodyshop to VW UK, that's when the wait begins!!

Had the same on my driver's side when I picked up my ed30.  Took it to my local dealer, they approved the repair and 2 days later it was sorted.  Can't fault the service, or the paint match, which was perfect.

Passenger side is fine weirdly as that side of the road has all the crud and stones etc.

I had one wing done on my 140 TDI, 100% free. They won't touch the GTI though because the paint measures too thick. I didn't know it had been touched up though.

I'm going to bring mine in in the new year while I've got some free time, hopefully I'll get everything sorted with no fuss. Fingers crossed !

Update....

It took 3.5months but finally had approval for repairs, they would only cover the wings though. They are replacing them with new ones.

Booked in for tomorrow for replacing and returned same day.

I went through Bolton initially, who then put me in touch with Manchester body shop.
