@Eves Give it a really good clean and a polish before you go. If you read back through this thread there is lots of "because I was well looked after...". It's not going to be there main reason for yes/no but it will certainly do no harm.

On my friends Golf, you couldn't see the bubbling, but you could feel it under the lip. He got 2 new wings (Euro Canterbury dealer and AB Crush paint shop).

I had no luck with either on my rear badge/tailgate rust.

Good luck

My 12 years warranty expires in 2 days time.

I took the car a year ago to VW Newbury about my rusty wing who were adamant that the wing had been painted and refused to submit the claim saying that VW take the old wings and check the paint depth (I don't believe they have time to do that on every claim).

However, I took it to Blade VW in Gloucester last week and the guy found a lower reading on the vertical flat face of the wing and said he would put in a claim and see what happened.

Fingers crossed....

Lying dealers should be reported to VW.   What a load of garbage.  Does he really think VW HQ want 1000s of rusty wings piled up outside their front doors?    Still, lying goings hand in hand with car selling doesn't it.

The dealer/bodyshop should measure the paint thickness with a micrometer there and then. It's a 5 minute job.

Amazing how often we hear of people being fobbed off with BS by the dealers. It seems a lot of them just can't be arsed to look after us.

Hi Guys,

Do you think car being lowered on the coilovers can impact claim ?
I have some significant rust on both wings and only one thing that is stopping me from putting a claim in is that car is really low.

What are your thoughts ?

It shouldn't, presuming you're not so low it's rubbing, but in reality it's the perfect excuse for them to say no.

Get it raised to standard height, sharpish.

Hi Folks,

my recent experience?

'56 reg Golf SDI, very minor bubbling on front arches. Called my local main dealer and got a date to see their "warranty" guy, (took 5 weeks !)

Took the car over at 09:00, guy spent around 2 mins looking at it and agreed to replace both front wings. Booked in for work the week after. I'll let you know how it all works out after next week.....

So is your car 11 years old?
Sounds good though, I wonder if you will have to pay for blending on top?

No contribution from me and I expect them to do a proper job, (even if that involves blending......)

@Dalejones They told you it had new paint and they would be charging you before they gave you the bill right? If not, they cant do that.

Sooo off it went to the VW main dealer accident centre. Got a call 2 days later to say its all done......So off I go to collect it, (a 50 min train and bike ride). Its sitting outside so I went for a look....

Great paint match.........Obviously assuming I was blind !!

Had a "chat" with the bodyshop manager, he was very apologetic "that colour is always difficult" VW don't include blending.....The discussion continued and I calmly pointed out that I could have had that standard of paint from Joe's body repairs down in the railway arches and expected something different form a Main dealer, approved bodyshop with all the attendant technology available to them.......

He agreed that they should have another go at it.....Took another week and they blended the adjacent panels. I paid nothing.....

Looking OK now, not too bad for a '56 reg car......Shame it took 2 goes.

Well at least they did it all for free in the end. Worth persevering with!
Just wish I'd noticed mine this time last year as it's now outside of the 12 year warranty period.

It doesn't matter that yours is out of warranty. These repairs are not done under the rust warranty because that only covers perforation from the inside out. These repairs that are being done are always called a 'goodwill gesture', which is why it can be so hit and miss if people get it done for free. It's certainly worth you trying to get it done!
