Also I quickly spoke to Amersham VW who said that cars up to a certain age would be expected to pay a percentage (mine is a 2005).

can anyone recommend a bodyshop (VW) around the north london area that would be friendly / has had this work done?

Mines an 05 and had 2 new wings FOC at Chelmsford along with both sill plates an bolts done FOC under the goodwill from VW UK

Just wanted to give an update to this:
Chiswick VW called me over jsut before xmas, and tested the paint on my car with the analyzer.

weird thing pretty much most of the panels on the car had been touched up ( this makes sense as i know the passenger side had been keyed so they would have had to respray the affected panels and then blend in the bonnet and the boot.)

fortunately the Drivers front wing (where the damage is) hasn't been touched and so they have agreed a 100% good will to replace the panel! 

if it wasn't for this forum, i would have paid for getting that panel fixed and resprayed!

Also i've acquired a facelift bumper...does anyone know if i stick this in the car if they would paint it for me for a fee??

....Yes, I'm sure they would because they'll have the paint on the go. Much more economical for you and them to do in same session - This is where you find out just how helpful your VW dealer really is, or not.

My VW dealer's bodyshop not only prep'd and painted my OSIR splitter and fitted it but did so for free - But that's not usual.

You just have to take it in and let them look at it and then they send off a claim to VW. They will then decide whether it's eligible for free repair, part payment or nothing at all. It can be a bit of a lottery!

I took mine in today as I've found it on the off-side wing. The driver's side wing has already been done under previous ownership.
