Has anyone has their boot repaired under warranty ?

Hey, yeah I have had the bootlid repaired under warranty. It was bubbling around the handle and the paint was lifting off inside the badge recess. The best I could get was a 70/30 contribution meaning I paid about £130 at Bathgate VW, Scotland.

Word of warning though. I had both the GOLF and 2.0TDI badge on my car which they charged me to replace, meaning I spend an extra £20 or so I didn't need to. Debadge the car yourself and throw the badge away or re-apply it once you get your car back.

Yes, mine was repaired under warrantly due to a rust spot appearing right under the glass at tip of wiper end (Where it holds water in the gap), VW repaired this under warranty and I paid nothing towards it and got a Golf Cabrio Bluemotion for 4 days while being done), I insisted they take out the glass and re-paint whole panel and they agreed it was the only wa to do it properly.

im still getting no were with this just get crap on phone dont no what ur talking about ur cars to old this n that so anoying :(

....I'm having difficulty understanding what you have written, mate. If you care to explain then we may be able to help.

All I can understand is that your repeated efforts are still getting you nowhere. Is your VW dealer telling you that your car is too old? - If so, that's not true because it's not a 3-year warranty issue. Speak to another VW dealer or to VW UK.

Yep, for the rust underneath the boot handle opening. At first they offered me a 70-30 split, but I wrote a complaint to the CEO of VW and after that they changed their mind and covered the whole cost. Apparently they made an exception for me "as it felt like the right thing to do". I have had a VW executive liasing with me throughout the whole process to make sure I'm happy. My GTI badge was replaced free of charge too. Just a shame that the bodyshop did a sh*t job and I've got to get it sprayed again!
From what I have gathered from VW they will be more likely to do the work under warranty if you have a dealer service history becuase they have been able to keep an eye on the car over the years. You might have to fight for it, but it's worth the effort.

....Right! OK, let's see if we can help you get a result.

- The wings rust issue is recognised by VW UK. If you PM me your email I can send you a PDF about it.

- It is NOT an issue which is anything to do with the standard VW 3-year warranty on a new car. Don't let any VW dealer fob you off with that, although it's possible they are ignorant of the issue.

- Contact VW UK. I'll post the phone # when I find it (my existing 0800 # isn't in service) and POLITELY explain your difficulty in getting a VW dealer to inspect it for consideration for repair.

- Remember to stay calm and polite when communicating with VW - You will get more with honey than vinegar and it may not be the fault of the individual you are talking to.

- The VW dealer/bodyshop will need to measure the wings paint thickness to establish it hasn't already had repairs.

- Read back through this thread for more information. See Reply #323 for example.

- Keep us posted about your progress.

@ Jamie:

My Mk5 GTI was 7 years old with nearly 100,000 miles when repaired free and it wasn't a problem.

VW will either repair or replace the wings - it's up to their assessment of the degree of rust.

Great news mate  :happy2:

Are you getting new wings and is it for both wings and both sills done? When I had mine done they put in for both wings and 1 sill then had to submit for the other sill as the rust wasn't visable until they stripped the car.

Thanks Nodz. It's just for on wing replacement. 1 has already been replaced under previous ownership. It is for 1 sill at the moment, but they are applying for the other sill as i've found a bubbleon that one too. They are not putting the troublesome foam liner back on either.

The bloke said there is now a 'TDI' out for these repairs, which means they are approved automatically by VW, provided your car is not full of filler etc.

....Do you know what a 'TDI' stands for, Ian?  (This is not a trick or joke question)
