Mine was done in a day and a half as I got a call from VW on Tuesday at lunchtime telling me that my car was ready.

I still can't collect my car untill the weekend as they are only open 9-5.30 and I work 6-4.30 at the other side of town from them. And I've had to pay £40 for insurance on their polo for the week and I had just filled the tank in the polo 30mins before they phoned

Does this seem a bit quick for them to do the work? As they originally said that it would take 3 days?

they probably told you it would take 3 days so they had a no pressure and could fit it into their schedule. Also, they wouldn't have to be telling you it wasn't ready yet.

It only takes 24hrs for the paint to cure.

To be honest having to pay insurance costs for a loan car is way out of order!! They are fixing a problem that is not your fault so you shouldn't have to pay anything! My car is booked in for next week at the body shop and I don't have to pay a penny; there's no way I would.
Also, if you did pay a weeks insurance and it was done in a day and a half, they should at least give you a refund for the rest.

They told me to swap my insurance for a week but by the time I paid a £25 admin fee to swap my insurance to the polo and get a refund for the price difference then have to pay another admin fee of £25 and pay back the price difference from the golf I was better off just getting temp insurance.

I agree that I shouldn't have to pay insurance for a courtesy car and they could be a bit more helpfull with dropping the car off etc with opening a bit later or offering a drop off/collection service.

They made it out like they were doing me a favor giving me the courtesy car as they originally asked why I couldn't manage without my car for a few days

I think they forget that people work and have to get to and from work

PDF Doc emailed to you.  :happy2: As above it doesn't state anything about price or % to pay but it does show that it is not an uncommon problem. Perhaps this, and a polite but firm talk with your dealer will persuade them to cover it 100%.

IanV5, I'd be interested if you can show us a document/website/etc that shows VW's change in policy to this issue. Cheers  :happy2:

VW Leicester (Lee) told me.

When I took my 2005 Gti in he looked at the wings, measured the paint depth with a gauge, could not get under the bonnet at the time as my bonnet release was stuck!

Did not take any pictures. Took my details and that was it. Car booked in on the 23rd of this month :happy2:

I'm heading into Western VW in Sighthill, Edinburgh today where my car has been serviced all it's life (previous owner). I'd like to appear well informed to the person I speak to so am going armed with the Rust .pdf document. Is there anything else I should take or be aware of?

Question is, who do I ask to see regarding warranty claims? Service manager? Technician? Or somebody else? This VW dealer doesn't have a bodyshop at it's site so there'll not be a paint/bodywork expert there (I presume). I realise I'll have to take the car to VW in Broxburn if/when they give the go ahead to replace my wings and repair/paint my bootlid.

Any help on how to deal with the VW guy/woman would be much appreciated.  :happy2:

If things turn out not so rosy I'll refer the vw service guy to Lee. I hope it doesn't turn out so complicated tho.

Mine were beginning to flake away under the arches and so took it to specialist cars in Aberdeen and had new wings fitted FOC, they really couldn't have been more helpful :)

Full marks to them!

Dodds, I didn't have documentation of any kind. I just phoned my dealer and asked how to go about putting in a claim for rust warranty. They told me to pop in at any time because there is always a warranty guy on site who deals with sending the claims to VW. Other dealers might make you make an appointment though. It doesn't matter that there is no body shop there because there is not one at my dealership either. My claims guy only had a quick look because VW are already well aware of the problem. He took a few photos of the affected area and that was it. You just might have to wait a few weeks to hear back from them with the answer. It seems now that VW are giving everyone new wings at no cost, as long as the area has never had any damage or been repainted.
Good luck!

Ok, so I went to Sighthill, asked for the service manager, and got told they can do nothing for warranties (bodywork-wise) as they don't have a bodyshop there. I apparently need to take the car to Broxburn. Am I being foobed off here, both branches are Eastern/Western franchises). Do I go to Broxburn of try my luck at VW Fort Kinnaird, also a Eastern/Western VW dealer?

Looking forward to an ED35 courtesy. I wish!

No mate you will have to take it to Broxburn. Just tell them which garage sent you (Broxburn is the bodyshop for all the Eastern-Western Motor Groups garages) I have to write a review of the Ed35 for their FB page , thats why I'm getting it! (I won a competition a while back on their page to have the 2012 Beetle for a weekend and I had to do the same thing for that)

Leicester VW have confirmed 100% repair which is VW UKs 1st line of warranty but as soon as they start there sure it will need a Wing which VW uk again will pay for but they can only authorise that once they can show VW the scale of the problem with photo's :happy2:
