Went to VW specialist cars in Aberdeen today, they looked over the car and have agreed to fit new wings and paint free of charge!  :drinking:

So I got a call this morning from Murray VW Plymouth saying they will pay for both wings to be replaced, despite one side not showing any visible rust yet.
Result, booked in for Tuesday.

Hi all.

Took mine to the dealer a couple of weeks back, they took pics and paint depth which checked out, and sent off the claim. Received a text today:

'We have now received authority to carry out replacement of the front wings on your VW Golf under warranty. Please call our Bodyshop to make a booking.'  :happy2:

It's going in next Wednesday and I will have the pleasures of a Polo courtesy car, at least it will make mine feel like a rocket when I get it back!

Well, a lot has happened over the past couple of weeks, firstly VW agreed to replace both wings free of charge, as for the sills they said they would only pay 50% which would be a cost to me of £260. I phone the body shop in question and spoke to somebody who said that that figure isn't correct and I should only pay half of the £260. From that I phoned VW up again and they  said the person I spoke to shouldn't have said that but they will have to honour it. Thought I would stand firm and said that I wasn't going to accept anything other than It being done free of charge and asked for another opinion from another body shop which they accepted. The report from the second opinion was inconclusive on wether it was covered under the perforation warranty so they said the next step would be a full report which would cost VW £150. As this is more expensive than the cost we would get back from me they offered to carry out the repair on both sills FOC. Car has gone into the garage and I am waiting for a phone call to go and collect my car.

Moral of the story is that if you feel you are right stand firm and stick it out.

So got my car booked in for Wednesday. They took a day to get back to me! They're only doing the one wing :-( as the other has no rust.  I get the pleasure of a fox courtesy car.  Anyone else get a better courtesy car is it worth throwing my weight around to get something a little nicer.

I got a nice Mercedes courtesy car! Just luck of the draw though really depending on where you get it done. From what others have said though, you should just be glad if it's free, some people have had to pay daily insurance for their loan cars!!

and so my story continues......I visited the VW dealer, had my paint depth measured and was quoted over £1000 to have the rust bubbles sorted on my rear driver side quarter panel & sills. This they explained was including a 50% good will gesture from VW. At this point I had only owned the car for two weeks, not having spotted the rust bubbles when I originally viewed the car.
Not happy, I contacted VW executive management in London and explained the situation. They were most surprised that a VW dealer had actually sold me a car with rust on it in the first place so they said they would take it up with the dealer and phone me the following day.
As they said, they called the next day, went through my buying process / who did I deal with / what did he / she say? etc and again said they would speak to the dealer. That same afternoon I got a call from the VW dealer general manager asking me to bring my car back for an inspection which I did the next day. He had a look at it and I pointed out all the flaws I had spotted then said he would call me the next day. He called the next day offering to fix it for free and that he was arranging a courtesy car for me. Thank you Volkswagen.

Well done! It's good to hear of a positive result. It's always worth pursuing them!  :happy2:
