and so my story continues......I visited the VW dealer, had my paint depth measured and was quoted over £1000 to have the rust bubbles sorted on my rear driver side quarter panel & sills. This they explained was including a 50% good will gesture from VW. At this point I had only owned the car for two weeks, not having spotted the rust bubbles when I originally viewed the car.
Not happy, I contacted VW executive management in London and explained the situation. They were most surprised that a VW dealer had actually sold me a car with rust on it in the first place so they said they would take it up with the dealer and phone me the following day.
As they said, they called the next day, went through my buying process / who did I deal with / what did he / she say? etc and again said they would speak to the dealer. That same afternoon I got a call from the VW dealer general manager asking me to bring my car back for an inspection which I did the next day. He had a look at it and I pointed out all the flaws I had spotted then said he would call me the next day. He called the next day offering to fix it for free and that he was arranging a courtesy car for me. Thank you Volkswagen.

Well done! It's good to hear of a positive result. It's always worth pursuing them!  :happy2:

+1

Not come across any rust issues yet (touching lots of wood :P) but good to hear about these results, if it did happen to mine.

Took my car in to the local VW bodyshop last Thursday as found some rust bubbles on the drivers side wheel arch and got a call today saying they will replace the wing.  All booked in for the 13th May.  I was armed with the PDF kindly forwarded by Red Robin but didn't need it in the end!

I was up at aberdeen vw last Friday for my warranty claim. I have a few areas require sorting- both wings, both sills, boot badge area. The guy said there is now a six week wait on the wings  :surprised:

Hoping to hear back within the next few days. How hard have people pushed to get it all done for free? If so do you just deal with vw head office? Am I entitled to a Courtesy car?

How common are these rust problems? I looked at an Edition 30 last night that was showing early signs on all 4 arches :scared: It had spent most of its life near the coast in Scotland which probably didn't help!

Rust issues seem very common.

Hey and there is nothing wrong with staying on the east coast of Scotland :happy2:

Oops :ashamed: I know it's lovely up there but I guess the Sea air and plenty of grit on the roads in the winter can't help once a hint of corrosion starts.

Looks like I'll need to check any potential purchases very carefully.

Mine has rust bubbles on rear driver side quarter panel, just above plastic bodykit and a wee bit where the rear bumper meets the same quarter panel.
Also on both sills where the front wings meet the sill. You need to open up the front doors as wide as they'll go and check the little square area on the sill and behind the very bottom edge of the front wings.
Make sure you view any cars when they are dry and not covered in beads of water. Also make sure the car is clean as well.

Where was the car from on the north east? the thing with the wings is that you can get it sorted for very little or nothing at all. i just purchased mine with the wings sills and book lock being in rusty condition but will be getting it sorted.

So I had my reply phone call from the dealer today. I have been offered 100% for both my wings to be replaced and painted :happy2:
I have also been offered 50% good will on my sills and boot to be sorted and re painted. I went back to vw today saying I would like a 70/30 split so will hopefully be hearing back start of next week.
They have said they are needing £412 for the 50% does that sound like a good deal?

your situation sounds exactly like mine. VW are covering the cost of rear quarter panel and have offered to pay 50% good will towards both sills and tailgate. VW head office also said they would pay an additional 25% towards the total cost of the repair. I was quoted £475 for everything.

When I was offered a 70/30 split on the boot rust I wrote a complaining email to the VW MD and then they somehow realized that "it was the right thing to do" to repair it free of charge. Don't always accept their first offer  :happy2:
