The only concern I have with those wings I linked to is that they are fibreglass skeleton with carbon overlay. Is this normal for carbon parts?

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Skimmed through the first five pages, but couldn't find what I was after so...

Where exactly am I looking for rust? I know it can be anywhere, but where is it most common?

Also, what is the PDF for that everyone is asking for?

Apologies for the silly q's

Title of the thread is a dead give away.... "Front wing rust warranty success!!"

Do you have rust on your front wings? If so go to a VW dealer. They will take pictures and take paint depth readings to make sure the wings have not been painted. VWHQ will then offer you 50% contribution and thats where your struggle begins.

Well that's a bit obvious but others are speaking of other parts of the car too

Thanks for the info regardless...

I had it on both front wings and also under where the boot badge opens. Other people seem also seem to commonly find it on the front door sills and in the gap under the bottom of the boot glass.

An update from me, I called my local VW dealer/body specialist's yesterday, and they said they would do 50% contribution maximum.

It worked out like £400 for the wing fitted, sprayed and blended. I am guessing I could get this price from any other bodyshop anyway??

^Absolutely... and if you have an easy colour to match like Black, you may not require a blend, depending how picky you are.  I replaced the boot of my Black 3 door and I cannot tell the difference between the bumper/wings and boot. :happy2:

Make sure the sponge is cut back before the new wing is added, as it will only happen again.

VW paid 100% of mine. When they completed the work they told me the warranty didn't include blending. I went nuts.

It is noticeable that it is a different colour and I'm a bit disappointed with it all.

Going to look for a used steel grey wing and just run the risk of that one going to pot aswell. Atleast then it'll be a better match.

Thanks, That is good to know as I would rather give my money to a local bodyshop than to VW for them only to make more money from something they should fix for free anyway and have done already in the past! its a joke.

They did it in September. No courtesy car because of my age.

All wings are the same yes. SE, Match, R32, GTi etc.

Took mine in today ref slight bubble on sill, guy at the dealer took all the paint depths and all was good. He said there was a recent 'tpi' for it what ever that means? Anyone in the know on this?

He was surprisingly positive they might honour it!

Fingers crossed!

Hmmm well ive just had my car inspected by Listers coventry and although they agree that the corrosion on both of my 2005 gti wings they are only willing to pay a 50% goodwill gesture as it is not a warranty issue

Apparently this is not a corrosion warranty issue???
