Thought I should reply now that my ordeal with VW has ended.

After agreeing to 100% goodwill on the wings and refusing an offer of 50% on the rusty tailgate (£567 contribution) I booked the car in early November at the Bognor Regis bodyshop (Peter Cooper VW).

Collection from the Southampton branch went smoothly - I even received a phone call from Bognor to say that the car had arrived and an expected completion date! I think in the 3 months its taken to get this far that was the second time they had called me without me having to hassle them with 5 phone calls first..

3 weeks later I get a call (a day later than they anticipated but fine, whatever) to say that the car was back in Southampton and ready for collection just as soon as I settle the outstanding bill of £567...! After calm explanation (to the 503rd person from VW that I seem to have spoken to) that I wasn't paying for work that I didn't authorise I was told that they would ring me back later that day.

To my great surprise (sarcasm) they never phoned back so I left it until 5pm to call them again to be told that 'it was all sorted'. The following day I collected the car from Peter Cooper Southampton, yet another visit with zero customer service, or quite frankly, even a smile.

I suppose I should be happy that due to VWs utter incompetence I had the tailgate done for free but I'm not - mainly because dealing with VW was hugely frustrating. Having previously owned a Subaru WRX Wagon, the local Subaru dealer couldn't do enough for me  and so I was expecting a similar level of service from VW but clearly I was expecting too much.

I picked my car back up yesterday after they had it for just 5 days. They always gave me a call to update on the car and they got the colour spot on. I had a brand new Polo with only 10 miles on the clock as a courtesy car so happy there as well  :happy2: This was at Norwich VW for 2 front wings. Well worth going to this VW as my closest VW one is crap and they don't really know anything about the cars. The car was very clean inside out when we picked it up so a very good service from them all in  :happy2:

Some of you may or may not know, but I have a Mk5 GTI as my daily.

The wings were horrendous on it. VW sorted it all out FOC.

Sorry for the awful pics but its all I have of them before the work was done

Took mine to VW Windrush in Maidenhead, who are well aware of the issue. They've book me into the bodyshop beginning of Feb, no questions asked. Happy days!

I took mine to vw start of December as noticed a little bubbling on the nsf wing (pictures show how little), got a phone call within a few weeks telling me the vw would be replacing this foc. So, car was booked in on monday to have this done, but i had a good look at the drivers side again to make sure i hadn't missed any bubbling on it, and guess what, there is a very minute bit on the underside of the wing which could not be picked up by camera, but as the car was booked in this week, i showed the service advisor when i dropped the car off so he said he would contact vw uk again and see what they say.

Got a call today telling me that they had to get their vw warranty inspector to look at the car as we could not supply pictures for the offside wing, any how, to cut a long story short, because of how early i have caught the bubbling, they are going to repair the offside wing and sort the splashguard issue and guarantee the work on it this week too.

So all in, both wings are being done on mine without the need to show any proof of service history etc, plus i know its not much, but i have an Up! to run about it, and as much as it is a pile of s**t compared to the golf, it costs nothing to run it!

Pics of the wing nsf wing - don't have any of the osf

This shows just how little it was showing, but this is being replaced, the offside is so minute, i can understand why they are only repairing it, but the fact they are guaranteeing the work, i suppose thats all i can ask for.

I work in the motor trade and know that even the premium manufacturers repair rust issues rather than replacing too.

VW leicester did my drivers wing again after the rust came back. This time they replaced the wing. They also sorted out the sill rust on the passenger side.
Did it all free of charge, had the car Tuesday night and I got it back Friday night. They have done a very good job.

Both wings have been repaired on mine, as both sides had so minimal outer surface rust only ( i have seen pictures from the bodyshop after removal to confirm) but i am a little concerned incase the issue comes back. I have asked the question and i have been told that i only have 1 years warranty on the repair and thats it. Surely they should be guaranteeing the work for the remainder of the 12 year anti perforation guarantee? I can understand that the first year would be down to the bodyshop, but the rest down to vw.

Can anyone confirm for me please, before i escalate this to vw customer serv debt.

My '55' GTI is going to VW Kings Lynn tomorrow to have pic's taken and sent off etc...

Will update any progress or issues, Warranty guy on the phone seemed quite polite and was talking as if I'd not have to pay a penny, and even mentioned Courtesy car :)

Also going in for the Coil pack recall.

Mines booked in on the 20th this month at Lookers Teesside..
58 reg Pirelli GTI. I rang Lookers up in November to get the wings looked at and this was their next available appointment.... By the way the guy was on the phone, I reckon I'll have a fight on my hands with getting the wings done even tho it's probably one if the last Mk5's to be made!
I need to be armed with information.. Where abouts in the owners handbook does it mention the corrosion warranty?

Mine was inspected today (VW Kings Lynn), Warranty guy measured paint, took photo's and filled out the paperwork.

Told me he'd ring next week to let me know how it goes, he also said he's had 4 in this month and all have been ok'd.

So fingers crossed :)

Lookers Teesside reckons they had 3 per week for months...
