May be a silly question, but do waxes and sealants add to the paint depth? Going in tomorrow for an inspection at VW and I am considering removing the good few layers of sealant and wax I currently have on the wings?

So what did they say to you? Did they give a reason why no contribution to repair?

The bonnet looks like its been resprayed and lacquer had gotten onto the wings, making the paint depth readings too high....

if youve got any other vw garages near or not too far away its worth trying with them.
there have been lots of cases here were one garage has said no and yet another garage says yes.
it can be just a fussy warranty guy that you encountered.

I have flaking paint and rust on my rear arch. Has anyone heard of this happening?
Also does anyone have the PDF with the warranty information on?
Cheers

There have been some people on the forum who have had that. But not many have had any luck with the rear arches. For some reason vw aren't as negotiable with that part.

This link may help you.

Hey guys,

I've a 57 plate Jetta which has rust in the following places -

  • Underside of the boot (where the number plate lights and boot opening switch are)
  • On the sill underneath where the wing meets it in the gap
  • Rusty spider on drivers side sill
  • Rusty spider on edge of bonnet

Would it be worth me booking an appointment with the local vw garage to see if they will do anything? I guess the worst they can say is no?

Give it a go. Your car is still under the corrosion warranty. Just need to consider if any work has ever been done to those areas.
When I had rust problems I had both front wings and the bootlid.
The front wings were authorised immediately, but the bootlid needed to be reported back to vw UK. Vw UK came back with 50% contribution only. But luckily for me the garage I took it to covered the other 50%. I wasn't a regular customer. Only went to them once for a replacement high level brake light.

Thanks mate, I'll take it down there as soon as I can drive the car again!

I've just been out to give it a hosing off and the rust on the bonnet is much worse than I thought. It seems to come from a split in the seam sealer on the side and the entire left hand inner edge of the bonnet is rusty!

Hopefully they are nice enough people to deal with

I've got an 05 plate TDi with some little rust stains. Do you reckon I'm still in warranty ?

This is a quote from the vw website.
"Body protection warranty
All current Volkswagen vehicles are fully protected during manufacture against through corrosion for 12 years from the date of first registration.

The only preconditions are:

The defect must be reported to a member of the Volkswagen Authorised Network as soon as it is discovered and within the warranty period.
The perforation must not have been caused originally by damage, neglect, insufficient care or maintenance or by external rusting.
A member of the Volkswagen Authorised Network must be advised about any rusting as soon as it is found.
All body repairs will be carried out promptly in accordance with the manufacturer's specification and procedures, using only approved parts and materials, so the original level of anti-corrosion protection is maintained."

So in a word, yes, you should still be covered.

One of mine is going probably again. It looks painted. But my issue is I have lots of little white spots of what look like paint about to lacquer peel on the roof on my tornado red GTI. Any ideas if this would be covered under warranty?

Mines booked in for 27th with a courtesy car!

I was told it's a 10 year warranty as my car was registered 27/07/05 looks like I'm just in! Also getting a mirror cap done for £40 which seems about right
