Advice Req'd - RCD510 & MDI for Ipod
« on: June 06, 2012, 09:24:06 pm »
Hello my friends, I'm looking for some help please  :happy2:

I have recently fitted an rcd510 in replacement of my rcd300 mp3. There are no issues at all with the h/u itself.

The problem has arisen since fitting an OEM mdi interface for using my ipod/iphone.

Basically, I am not getting any sound or information from the kit.

I have enabled the aux input through the h/u in the settings screen. The h/u recognises that something is plugged in to the aux port.

I have read on here about the can-bus interface, which may need upgrading, however my car is a 2008 model (build date february) so cant imagine this being the cause?

Is there something that needs enabling through VCDS?

Thanks in anticipation of your advice

Did you adjust the Aux-input volume level?

Is it just no sound or are you getting interference? Did you do the pin swap?

As in this link http://www.my-gti.com/1336/cd-changer-audio-sound-quality-problems-after-changing-head-unit

Sounds like you need to activate with VCDS, do you have it? If not check the register for someone close by

What MDI interface cable are you using?

Where did you put the MDI interface loom in relation to the radio loom?

Does the iphone/ipod start charging when plugged in?

VCDS Scanning/Coding, RNS and MDI retrofits, and specialist mechanics services with VAGtek available - Just PM me for details.

Cable is OEM

One end of interface loom plugged in to standard loom and the other end in to h/u

Yes it does

Well, seems its my h/u...  :surprised:

I was under the impression that all rcd510's were the same?

The kit works perfectly with my mates rcd510, which has the same p/n as mine, but has 5 more pins on the back, weird??

So, looks like I need to get myself another unit  :sad1:
