AirCon Whine
« on: June 08, 2012, 09:03:54 pm »
I've had my ED30 for about a year and warranty is about to run out.

When I bought my car the aircon wasn't cold and made a noise like an asthmatic old man.  It went straight back to VW who said it needed re-gassing and it came back fine.  4-5 months later it happened again.  VW re-gassed and checked for leaks but couldn't find any.

The aircon now intermittently whines in time with the engine revs, particularly when stopped at the lights, where the dsg is holding revs while on the brakes.  As soon as you turn the aircon off the whine goes away.  I took it back to VW but it wouldn't make the noise for them and they said it doesn't need re-gassing and so couldn't find fault.

Is this a problem anyone else has come across, because it is driving me mad!!!!!

Cheers, Steve

The compressor is a known weak spot.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Thanks SRC, i've been looking it up and the rev related whine does seem to be a compressor issue.  Back to the dealers...........
