« on: June 10, 2012, 03:12:32 pm »
I have just done one of the rears as a test and I have painted on some rust proof paint and the finish is ok but!
It is was to silver and shiny and just doesn't look oem!

So was just wondering if someone who has done this before can point me in the right direction so get a better look

Many thanks Gallo :)

.
Best to use proper paint which is designed for it: Caliper paint available in a range of colours but mine (not applied yet) is in the garage and the brand not accessible right now.

Do they need sanding first, or can you just paint straight over them?

Yes they need rubbing down first with a wire brush and a scotch pad to give the paint a key to adhere to.

Paint them in Black. You don't see the inevitable brush strokes and they look better than silver when dirty!

The Halfords high temperature paint is spot on too!  :happy2:

Thanks. I like the black idea, sounds good. My cars black anyway, it might look nice. Certainly got to be better than rusty anyway!!

Well I first used the smooth silver Hammerite but I think it looks to silver against my monza so was thinking black and I am thinking of getting monza shadows eventually, which black would you recommend greeners???

I have done all my bells in Blackfriars metal paint, same as Hammerite but cheaper, been on for over 6 months, still looking good with no sign of corrosion.
