R32/Edition 30 rear light connectors won't fit
« on: June 12, 2012, 06:03:23 pm »
Today I thought I'd fit my R32/Ed 30 rear lights as they'd been sat in there box for over a week.
The inner lights went in no problem with the two simple 10mm bolts to tackle. However with the larger outer lights I encountered a problem. The connector that plugs into the bulb housing fits but will not clip in place and just springs back out.
Has anyone else had this problem from changing standard lights to these?

I did mine on Sunday and struggled to get the drivers side connection to clip in. Just used a bit of gentle persuasion to fully push it in! Other than that it was a piece of cake!

What is the actual difference between the R32 taillights and the standard GTI ones. It seems lots of people have changed to the R32 ones and I just wondered why. Do they look much different? Are they worth getting?

They are just slightly darker than the standard GTI lights.

Here you can see the "inside" light has been changed to the r32 version. Purely looks.

Where did you guys get your lights from?  I want a pair I think they improve the look of the car no end.

To the OP i hope you get yours sorted.

Thanks.  I think awesome pricing is a little bit steep.  But if I get impatient I may just get them!

Mine were a bit stubborn too compared with my originals that just snap into the clip no problems...... like others i just perservered and eventually for me it was easier to retract the retaining clip fully and then push the connector firmly in place and let the clip go again rather than just push and let the spring do the work  :happy2:

Thanks for the replies fellas. Glad to see other people have had the same problem, I will give it another go tomorrow  :happy2:

My personal opinion is even though the average person wouldn't notice the difference with these lights to standard, it is a subtle mod that just makes the car look that little bit better.
I much prefer these to the passat/jetta style ones everyone is changing to

Right I've had another go today and they wouldn't fit not with all the pressure in the world. So I've used the bulb holders from the old units and so that bit is sorted............however I've encountered another problem.
Tighted up the two 13mm bolts on each side but the rear lights are not flush to the body. There is a huge gap between the body and the light and it moves about, no impressed with these at all :(

Are the definitely genuine VW lights? Mine were slightly raised but once they were fully flush they sat fine.
