Silly me! Yes, he had a CSL (the one in the pic). Lots of carbonfibre included

Yep, the CSL had a cardboard boot floor, carbon fibre roof panel, no sound deadening and other weight savings, along with no radio or aircon and so on. It was 110 kg's lighter than the full fat M3 with more power. The CS was a CSL with all the normal M3 luxuries. Can't be doing without the climate, electric seats and so on, lol.

I wasn't massively impressed when I drove an M3...maybe I wasn't driving it properly.

The CSL has become a bit of a cult car, surprising considering it wasn't widely praised when it came out.

The E46 M3 is one of the best cars I've driven, I'd even say I preferred it to the 996 Turbo. It has a lovely rawness to it.

My mate Sam sold his M3 CSL (On an 04 plate), we were gutted he sold it as we used to borrow it to go to Isle Of Man for TT races, I am not a fan of BMW's (I dislike them a lot) but that is one car I would have, Carbon roof, bucket seats, SMG box and 5 settings for suspension and gearchanges etc, we used to call it the "Defcon" switch , on max setting it sounded like a spitfire and went pretty quick (363bhp i think?), I was lucky enough to drive it round the TT course a few times, we even managed to see an indicated 150mph over the mountain one day (before you drop down towards the Creg), was being egged on by Sam  :signLOL: (Oh and before anyone not in the know says anything there is no speed limit when you see the black n white sign in IOM  :happy2:), The police just wave at you as you go past  :happy2:, if they stop you its because they want a ride in your car  :signLOL: :signLOL:

Happy days, to be fair he replaced the CSL with a very expensive motorbike (His passion)

Getting seriously tempted by an E39 (1998-2003) M5. The V8 in that beast sounds spine-tingling. 400bhp as well. The only thing that's putting me off is the VANOS unit going belly up, many thousands of £s to replace.

I might be predicting it wrong, but i really reckon my next car will be Edition 40.

That's me looking into the future somewhat though...

Nice one mate. Been checking out E46 M3's again this evening. I shall not be led into temptation. Enjoy your new car.

Such a lot of bollocks spoken about the csl, it has the same metal boot floor as the normal m3, climate control and radio were fitted to most of them and the gear change settings only do that, not suspension, the sport button doesn't adjust suspension or steering either!
