Opinions
« on: June 14, 2012, 07:40:15 pm »
So I'm in the unfortunate position of buying 4 new tyres :fighting:

Never tried any of the tyres I'm considering apart from 1,

The choice I was thinking are,

Michelin pilot sport 3's 92Y

Goodyear eagle F1s asymmetric 2s (due to a post I seen on here)

Continental sport contact 3 or 5s

Uniroyal rainsport 2

Obv the uniroyals are the cheapest at around £92 a tyre but costco have an offer on ATM which is 4 Michelin pilot sport 3s fitted and nitrogen filled for £442 which is pretty cheap

The Goodyears are £464 delivered from camskill and the conti 3s are £448. Opinions pls? The PS3s are sort of tempting me, cheers.

Does the outlet quoting for the PS3s have the correct machine for swapping the tyres (I'm assuming you have 18" rims). If not then you can potentially end up with damaged rims to go with the cheap quoted price.

I use the  Goodyear eagle F1s asymmetrics and find them very good

The place I'm buying and getting them fitted from is Costco. According To the guy he's gonna use plastic blades? Which won't scratch the wheel surface. So he says. Can't see them being any worse than kwik fit etc...

I have just replaced my front two tyres (conti 3s) with the goodyear eagle f1 asy2s. They are without a doubt the best allround tyre i have used! Yet to find out on wear rate.

Not trying to be negative but a few members on here have posted in the past about damaged rims after having tyres replaced at Costco.

Maybe it's down to careless staff, but I'm hoping if i tell the guy the wheels scratch v easily he will take extra care.
Most places will charge around £40-60 for four tyres being fitted. Don't fancy that.

To compare, a local tyre fitter quoted me £133.20 fitted per corner on the goodyear eagle F1 asymmetric 2's in 18". Pretty much similar to camskill.

Think I'm gonna go with the PS3s. They were rated 4th in EVO mags 2012 tyres test in 235/18 form on an Audi s3. Would most likely go for continentals otherwise but with over a £100 saving ps3 seems quite good

Rainsport 3 are quite soft and also have widely spaced tread blocks. They work well in the wet, but are a bit vague in the dry compared to PS3s and F1 ASYM 2.

PS3s are remarkably robust and despite hammering a set on track recently, they took it in their stride, only going wobbly after a good few hard laps (not in a Mk5).

i have contis 3 and wouldn't recommend them. They are noisy and poor grip in wet!
