Oil pressure warning light switch off engine!
« on: June 17, 2012, 01:23:46 am »
I had the new engine fitted in today and the car was started for the first time, we let it idle for about 10 mins. All good no smoke bangs or anything wierd, when ready to go on idle I revved the engine up to about 2.5 rpm and then on the trip computer the warning light came up saying STOP! Oil pressure and to switch off the engine, I did so immediately and left it as it is.
This is what maybe causing it, when the engine was being fitted the original loom (from old engine) was being used and everything wired up except the oil pressure sensor from the new engine, so what they did was used the old sensor from my AXX engine on to the new one, could the problem mean the old sensor is not compatible with the new engine?
This was around 5pm so had to leave it with them again and need to wait till Monday to see what happens,
Can anyone shed some light on this problem?
I did use the search thread and nicks write up on the oil line came up but am just trying to figure out about any differences these sensors would have between a engine with k03 and a engine made for a k04

Why couldn't you use the pressure sensor from the new engine?  Did you fit a new oil filter and oil?

I was told it did not fit on to the existing loom, And yes new oil and filter was used Alex

Has the oil level been checked to see if its above minimum? Also I would try and unplug and plug in the sensor to see if its fitted  correctly. I cant see there being different types of oil pressure sensors for different engine codes.

On Monday I will know if the sensor was fitted correctly or not it could have easily been missed out, Just wanting to find out if there are dfferent sensors on these, But then again it probably is as I have already been told by them that the new sensor did not fit! lol

Can someone that can get hold of part numbers see if there are any differences to the pressure sensors between a cupra/S3 engine and standard gti?
Would it be ok to get the new sensor spliced on to my original loom?

From what I can make out the AXX engine code came with either a 1 pin or a 2 pin sensor, the BWA and S3 engine come with a 2 pin sensor but both are 1.2-1.6 bar so it should work fine. Maybe replace the sensor or your pick up is blocked?

Yeah it was something like that, different pins in the sensors which I why it didn't fit, hopefully it is just the sensor or a sensor clogged up, if not the oil pick up will be checked next, where is this located and is it hard to do?
