Long Term (For 10 years plus) £20k Keeper ?
« on: June 18, 2012, 11:48:02 am »
I need a Present when i leave my present job . To be bought out of my Lump sum  :happy2:

I quite like the Triumph Stag which could be had for about £10-15k

Also a Merc SL500/350 2005ish for £20k

A Karmann Ghia too

Got until July Next year to decide and find a car.

What suggestions would you make ?

I want to keep it long term and use it all year round .

I also want it to depreciate very little too.

i wouldn't recommend the 2005 or so SL - build quality is pretty bad, that engine (which my parents had in an S-Class) is thirsty and a bit gutless (306bhp in a car that weighs 2 tonnes - you'll be used to that sort of power in a car that's 500kg lighter)

£20k will get you a good 964 911, or a R107 Merc SL from the 80s which will only ever increase in value. same with the Merc E500 from the early 90s (tho they were LHD only) or maybe an E30 M3 for that price?

Depends what you want in a car. Vw split screen camper will hold money or an old 911

e30 m3 are silly money now.

964 porsche would be brilliant. Friend had one which I used a little bit and always felt special driving it around. Great car and if you get the right one you wont lose any money on it now.
