Error codes
« on: June 17, 2012, 05:51:58 pm »
Hi all,

I had a mate today clear a light that was on on the dash, after, we had a look to see if there were any other codes coming up.  We got two.

P2008 - Intake Manifold Throttle - Permanent

P3138 - Variable Intake Manifold, Switchover Valve; regulation difference - Permanent

I've just had a wee search on the internet for them and haven't come up with anything to explain.

Can anyone help me with what they mean?  Are they serious?

I changed the dump valve to  a revision G a few months ago from a C, does this have to be told to the ECU or are these codes completely unrelated?

Thanks.

I'm guessing you have a gti? The intake manifold flap is a common fault on the gti!
Have a look here at 'tumble flap' point 7.

I have had intake manifold flap fault code twice in 3 years, I have never replaced the motor, I just activate basic settings via VCDS each time and its fine! last dine this about a year ago, been good since then! Have a look here for activating basic settings

Thanks for your reply, I just had a look at your two links, the first one is a really handy page but the second doesn't really mean anything to me as I have no clue about VCDS etc, but its somethings I can look into.

Are the tumble flaps something I can clean or is it a part that needs replaced?  It mentions the tumble flaps are operated to enhance fuel/air mixture.  I can get 38 - 40 mpg very easily ('05 GTI), maybe I'm not understanding but if the flaps were not working correctly, would my mpg not be worse?

The text after the codes in your first link differs to the description I get from my car but the code is the same, do you know what this means?

I'm sort of trying to avoid going to VW with it, I called them today and asked them if the could enlighten me but they were not very forthcoming with information and wanted to charge me 70 quid just to put the car on their machine, I'm not keen on that as you can imagine.  The car seems to run perfectly with no problems at all and with no dash warning lights or anything, which is confusing.

I don't know what diagnostic's your mate was using but you really need a scan with vcds then post the results up here! Vcds is what vw are going to charge you £70 for to diagnose your car! Have a look at the vcds owners register to see the nearest member who could scan your car for beer tokens  :happy2:

I'm  not sure what my mates diagnostic program is, he's am MOT tester at a local garage so its probably a universal one if there's such a thing, it works on a lot of cars.  I'll ask him.

The nearest person to me is over 100 miles away so its probably a trip to VW.
