EFR Turbo range maybe the way forward for TFSI big power??

I know next year when I get my Mk5 TFSI I will be running on of the EFR range turbos and aim for 500-600bhp... :driver: 


 As far as I know this is the first 1.8T BAM LCR in the UK to be running this setup.

The new Borg Warner EFR 6758 Turbo 275-450bhp

Not a cheap turbo but a fecking AWESOME turbo.   Its the first big turbo I have tuned which can spool near enough on par with the k04-023 by having peak torque below 4000rpm and go on to produce 420bhp close on to 8000rpm.    If tuned with spike it would go on to produce 500lbft with ease by 4200rpm.   :drool:  but would make the car a nightmare to control/drive.

We opted to peak the boost at 22psi at 4000rpm, then ramp the boost linear to 26-27psi by 8000rpm to maintain a flat torque band.  The turbo would boost at 32psi happy and all day long and could make 480-490bhp maxed ou. :grin:   

This it the way forward imo....  We all just need to win the lottery.. :grin:

The graph below is of one of the runs from our live mapping session this morning, layed back to back with a stock AMK 210bhp k04 graph..





If you dont understand dyno graphs then the picture below will put it another way.
Ben is the stock K04 turbo and Lee is the new Borg Warner 6758 turbo..... :rolleyes:





The car is also running WMI for cooling and has 100bhp shot of NOS to hand to squeeze the peak power to around 500bhp. :evil:


Anyone with a mk5 TFSI wanting to run this turbo??

My mate has a 500hp 1.8T (bored to 2.0l)... no meth. It's a pig to drive, but genuinely hilarious.

I got lot of 1.8T running NOS and WMI combi and they run spot on.  Never tuned a TFSI with them both.... yet

My mate has a 500hp 1.8T (bored to 2.0l)... no meth. It's a pig to drive, but genuinely hilarious.

This is easy to drive with the linear throttle and boost mapping...   Bit of an arse twitcher in 4th gear at 600rpm

His is as linear as you can get it, has a very trick valve train & headwork and revs to near as damn it 9000rpm when in full-attack mode - but there's no getting around the fact it's a massive blower  :signLOL:

And still the same 1/4 mile time as my home made k03 -001-023 hybrid as GTi inters last year.   :smiley:   He won fastesr in 2wd VW class on Saturday and on Sunday I won fastest in class with the same time.

Yep. As I said, it's a pig to drive - even with a diff and sticky tyres, it's useless until you hit 3rd, especially on the Inters surface. On the road though, it's frightening when wound up.

Wasn't it damp/wet on Saturday? I wasn't there. I drove it on Inters 1/4 in '10 when it had 400hp and managed a 13.4 (link).. still sh*t for its power  :grin:

What power was your car running last year, out of interest?? I thought Chris ran a 13.1 on Sunday, taking the MK4 prize??

EDIT - I found last year's thread. RTEC Nick " was running 257bhp 280lbft in 1st, 2nd and upto 3800rpm with just the turbo and water injection then in after 3800rpm in 3rd I hit the NOS button to give me 346bhp to 7900rpm". God bless my excellent memory.

I ran 13.7 in a 300hp 135i, which probably has 150-200 kgs on yours.

Always good to see new options for getting proper power :laugh: especially as its something im going to look into doing over the winter!



Does anyone know whats happening with the bsh woa manifold as i read the other day that its not being produced anymore?
