Count me in on that. I'm not as seriously afflicted as Deako as I too can usually last a year. I found that by modding the sh!t out of cars I can last up to 3 yrs and although it affects my wallet it is better than buying a new car every year and losing that way. The Polo may well make it to 2 years, but my wife isn't holding her breath in the hope I do!

Boosted my savings a little and so I have about £40k including trade-in for the next project. I'm thinking £25k Golf .:R and £15k mods....thoughts anyone?

I lasted 4 months with a Mk5 GTI. 9 months with an Ibiza FR TDI (mainly because of commuting) 11 months with the Clio 200, 3 months with the Scirocco (but it was a crap example) and I've had the Polo GTI for 5 months.

To be honest, as much as I'd love a Roccco/Golf R at the moment. My main reasons for wanting to change are a hankering for a T4 camper for holidays away with our 2 dogs and also an itch for an older car that I can modify the nuts off again. Like another Mk1/2 Golf.

I refer you to E30DOM's reply. Thought about doing a mad, bad MKII project myself.

Start from a shell and fit it to a 2.5 TT-RS engine and box, custom fitting 4WD running gear and Lambo interior.
Golf R gone.

rely cant afford a golf R yet but fancy changing the ED30 before the arse falls out of the mk5 value

I'd argue it already has. GTIs and Edition 30s are going for next to nothing these days.

I think the 2.5 lump would be overkill in the Mk2 chassis, unless all you care about is straight lines.

A nice K04 Ed30 conversion would be fantastic. There is a great vid on YouTube with a white Mk2 running full Mk5 dash, RNS510, climate etc. Full loom. It's immense.

I'm leaning towards a nicely specced mk6 gti to replace mine when the time comes  :happy2:

Is a Bavarian replacement no longer on the list Steve?
I genuinely have had a headache for over a year on replacing the GTI. I think I'm forced into a diesel bus purchase next with property commitments, so the A3 Black Ed tdi, MK6 GTD and e92 325d remain on the list  :chicken:

Still yet to be won over by the MK6 in general, but a 3door GTD makes most sense coming from a MK5 perhaps?  :stupid:

Not ruling out a Bavarian barge of some kind completely Pete, but my short list was either a 135i or 123d coupe and they are out now as our circumstances may well change in the near future and ideally looking for a Golf sized hatch again

Having the ed30 and it being such a good car is causing me a headache finding something to fill its boots tbh! BMW wise it would be between a 330/5d or 335i saloon but leaning to something i'm more familiar with along the lines of a MK6 GTi / Audi S3 / Octy Vrs at the moment..

I have absolutely no idea, have not had the ED30 long enough yet. Possibly carbon grey golf R would be nice when they drop in value enough.

just out of interest - why wouldn't you just buy an RS3? or a TT-RS for fun, and a diesel Mk5 for daily duties?

It has it's own website. The white one? With working convenience & canbus. Cornering fogs, comming home lights etc, not forgetting the engine!  :notworthy:
