Smelly aircon
« on: June 23, 2012, 08:56:02 pm »

Aircon on my new motor is a bit smelly. Sometimes it smells just a bit musty, but sometimes it almost smells a bit of wee

Has anyone got any ideas for cleaning the vents to kill what I guess must be a build up of bacteria.

I just got my aircon emptied and regassed for £39.95 (at a garage in the Bosch network).
Loads of garages have prices like this and worth doing seeing as the car is new to you, and for peace of mind that it helps keep the aircon system in order.
Also worth checking out mobilve local aircon specialists who can be very competitive and knowledgable.

Or the cheap way is to get a 'aircon cleaner' bomb can thingmy for about a tenner and let that work through the cabin vents via recirculation. Also definitely worth getting a new pollen filter as this might be old/soggy and containing the smell (easy to replace in 2 mins, underneath/behind the glovebox).
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)
