Bargain motor finds

perhaps this could be turned into a sticky if everyone thinks it's a good idea? I'll start the ball rolling, amazing what you can pick up for under £4000 if you're willing to take the hit of fuel and new tyres.

03 Plate Jag S-Type 'R'
4.2ltr Supercharged V8
142k Miles
£3650

http://beta.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/jaguar/s-type/2003-jaguar-s-type-r-supercharged-4-2-v8/451116

not the prettiest looking thing but who cares when it's got that peach of an engine under the bonnet? High miles though.

I think it's

What does everyone else think?

.
You say it's not that pretty, but it's not at all ugly either, IMO. Very elegant in its day and an evolution of earlier Jag limo styling. Looks better than many cars of today - I'm thinking of Fords, Toyotas, Hyundai's etc.

I don't see the point of making it sticky as the subject is totally transient.

Just done an insurance quote to satisfy my curiousity, 28yo, 4years NCB, £680. Pleasantly surprised! The question remains though, is it acceptable for a 28 year old to be driving a Jag? I do have an alarming amount of grey hairs coming through already though.

Bargain for sure but they don't drive as nicely or as quickly as you'd imagine, worst part is that all that lovely V8 noise can't be heard from the drivers seat although pedestrians do get the full effect  :happy2:

tbh fuel and tyres dont scare me that much on cars like this as they need to be budgeted for with every car , its the cost of parts eg worn suspension or brake components which come with mileage/age.
dont get me wrong the idea seems great and so do the car(s)  but underlying costs could soon spiral imo
Still Here!

IMO the S-Type is the poorest effort Jaguar have made, looks-wise. It really is terrible. And what's the point in a peach of an engine if the handling and power delivery is awful?

Don't know where 'awful handling' came from, yes when they were first introduced in 1999 they were slated a bit but by around 2004 onwards the handling was pretty much sorted on the Type R.

Plus the XF uses the same chassis, and the XFR has been called as good as an M5

Subjectively "as good as", but I don't for one second believe anyone has said the XFRs handling has been described as being as good as an M5. Besides, the basic chassis has been carried over, but that will be it.

Anyway, what's with all the Grandads aspiring to own Jaguars all of a sudden? Sounds like a few of you are blinded by value for money.
