Had a trip over to NI to look at a MK5 GTI and bought it.

Was a bit reluctant as it had been on the longlife service schedule so only 3 services carried out during its 66k miles covered in 6 years however, the engine was smooth, idle was good. Turbo pulled from 2.5k cleanly and no knocks from suspension so bit the bullet and bought it.
On way home (Manchester) noticed on motorway droaning/humming coming from the rear. First thought Bearing but after a bit of research looked at rear tyres and they had worn on the inside. Changed them for some I had in the garage from a previous car and now all is fine.
First thing done is a fresh oil change and I replaced the Cam follower as the car had been on longlife didnt want to take any risks. See pic below of original cam follower removed, starting to show wear signs but nothing too serious. Service now changed to time and distance.
First impressions are good, light clutch and nice gearbox. Good pulling power from low down in rev range. I do a lot of motorway driving so like the fact I can stick it in 6th and leave it. What most impressed me is the mpg returned on a run. £70 optimax gave me 440 miles 80% motorway 70-80mph with 20% A road. One downside is that I dont feel it is as well built as my previous Mk4 R32, the MK5 just doesnt feel as well put together compared to MK4, maybe its just me.
Next step is probably a cambelt and waterpump change althought the service book states 120k miles. Ive spoken to a few garages and they recommend every 5 years although they also said they havent seen the belts go on a MK5 GTI yet......?
Modding wise first thing will be suspension and bushes upgrade...
