Cost of R32 bumper
« on: June 29, 2012, 12:45:44 pm »
Given my the post I posted yesterday about someone reversing into my rear bumper, it got me thinking about the possible options available.  My current bumper is cracked below the number plate so the first option is to just get that repaired.  However, I do really love the look of the rear bumper on an R32 so wanted to ask you guys what parts I needed to do this and roughly how much I can expect to pay.  Does the rear bumper split in two?  If so, can I just buy the bottom section for that R32 look?  I know I will need new tail pipes but I'm thinking of going stage 2 very shortly anyway so will look at an exhaust with R32 pipes.

Any idea on cost and the best place to source the parts would be appreciated.  Oh, and if you already have an R32 style rear, a pic of it would be appreciated.

Cheers   :drinking:

The bumper does split into two so you can get just the lower half. 2nd hand these can range from £150 to £250 (for genuine). From the dealer its alot more.

Then the exhaust sorround you can get one with cut outs for the standard exhaust, quad or R32. If going R32 you will get them trim with the bumper usually if your going different thats anything from 169euro to $400+ for Carbon Fibre from Osir.

If your changing your exhaust you will be looking at £300+ (2nd hand) up to £1000+ (new) depending on style, CBE, TBE etc.

ANd you have to get it painted so around another £100.

I'm doing this atm and so far a bumper, CBE Quad exhaust, centre trim (all 2nd hand) has cost me £600 without painting.

Hope this helps  :happy2:

That's a big help, thank you Nodz.   :happy2:

I'll be interested in seeing a picture of your car when it's done.  I love the look of the quad pipes fitted to Red Robin's car!  Need to scout around for a second hand R32 lower bumper section now.  Ebay the best place to start?

Here's the links to the inserts.

I've got an osir carbon one the same as robin. They are not cheap

The only other option I have seen is from srs tec for 169euros

Exhaust are from the usual people, Milltek, Blueflame and BCS to name a few

Thanks Stephen.  Your Edition 30 looks superb and rather than getting my bumper fixed, you boys have convinced me this is definitely the route I want to take.

Thank again Nodz.  The OSIR ones looks fantastic, but as you say they're not cheap!

On the exhaust front, is there much difference cost wise between the three you mention?

I'm not sure to be honest. I know my quad as a cat back new was over £600 + fitting but I got it for £300 second hand. Also I think Milltek have now stopped making it (they might do it as a custom).

Your best bet is to contact them and have a chat. I know Millteks website now only links you to authorised sellers/fitters and do not show prices. BCS also do not show prices on their site but alot of people have been impressed by the exhausts (I believe Nige from BCS used to work for Blueflame). Blueflame have prices on their site but no pics. There are other companies but these are the main 3, but I can't see there being much difference between them price wise

Sounds awesome Nodz.

Just checked out your build thread and looks like your car is coming along nicely.  Glad to see it's sorted after the (BLEEPS!) that broke into it too.  Looking forward to a pic of the quad pipes and R32 bumper when they're on!

My plan for this weekend is to search out an R32 bumper now.  Thanks for your help.  Is Big Al called Big Al on here as I'll PM him to see if he can source an R32 bumper for me.

Just a quick one guy's,I have the lower R32 bumper which I bought off Weston am I correct in saying that I will only need the plastic exhaust surround trim to complete the conversion as well as the R32 style exhaust?Or will I have to buy the bumper support foam trim and a few other thing's mentioned in the fitting guide from vortex?

I got them from heavyd (iirc) on here. They pop up from time to time in the for sale section for around £180+ and normally sell within minutes.

Or you can buy them from here http://www.kunzmann.de/shop/en/tuning-styling-vw-golf-5-v-led-rear-lights-set-candy-red-for-vw-golf-5-v.htm

I just got my Votex front lip from there and there was recently a group buy from them so they are a good company to buy from. Also you would nee to swap the fog light lens round as it has to be on the drivers side and as these are EU lights (never relesed for the UK) its on the wrong side

Heres robin's review and I can't find the how to for the fog swap but its about somewhere  :happy2:

Just the exhaust surround. The foam strip is only for the US cars not EU cars  :happy2:

Theres one on ebay for £99 at the moment but check the dealers as might be a bit cheaper
