Bought our new GTI yesterday!
« on: June 30, 2012, 09:48:53 am »
Pics to follow later.

I picked up our GTI yesterday after finally getting around to selling the S3. I have done this to free up some funds to expand the business but to be honest the GTI feels every inch as good a car as the S3 at the moment for half the money. I paid £7k for it, full ED30 front and side skirts and R32 rear with side exit. The car is black and really looks great, very pleased with it. There are 1 or 2 cosmetic issues I want to sort out on it and any help/advice on these would be great.

The panels on the door cards are a bit knackered, the bit where the window switches are, I assume these can be bought and replaced easily enough, the buttons for the windows on the drivers side are knackered as well. The only other blemish on the interior are the panels on the steering wheel where you would normally find the multifuction buttons. Hopefully I can get some new ones of these, if not I will remove them and poss wrap them to make them look tidier.

On the outside, a couple of the 18" Monzas have a few little kerbing marks but nothing major. The passenger side wing mirror could do with replacing as the glass looks to have been glued back in at some point but it is hardly noticeable. Then finally the headlights could do with a good flat & polish as they have gone a bit hazy. For a 7 year old car though it is in great condition, just a few wear and tear items really that I'd like to fix/replace as the car will represent us at shows and meets  :happy2:

Plans are to sort the above and then get coilovers, probably KW's, BBS VZ 18's, spacers if needed, Shark stage 1, ITG Maxogen, TTS engine cover & centre exit Milltek with R32 valance. I don't want to mad on power on this car as I don't really want to chuck £4k+ at a £7k car and I think stage 1 is a great compromise.

Thanks guys, pics will be next week as it won't stop pissing it down in Lancashire :(

Really pleased with the car though. I have just taken it for Joe (our mechanic when we open the unit in October) to have a look at and we both suspect it has already been mapped. We will see soon I guess.

I have got prices for new window switches and interior door handles/surrounds from TPS and they don't cost much so will get that done 1st :)

Sounds good to me mate  :happy2:

I'd be interested to see what the Golf is like with a tuned K04 in it compared to the S3 and the K03 GTI. The GTI seems to pick up really well low down then run out of steam just when the S3 was going mental! So in a strange way it doesn't FEEL slow despite me going from 350+bhp to 197bhp. I am pleasantly surprised by the car so all good  Stage 1 coming soon.

Well done, interesting move from S3 to GTI.

When choosing my GTi, I test-drove the S3, and whilst it was very nice, I couldn't see where all that extra money went, aside from a bit of straight-line speed.

Good move imho :)

Enjoy it - they're great cars.

The only thing I've found that can surpass my GTI experience has been a Porsche Carrera. Testament to how good I think the car it imho.

Why not go straight for the stage 3?

Please don't mate

A few reasons, one is I sold the S3 to get the money together for the unit. So chucking £3-4k at this car in a short space of time is pointless as I may as well have kept the S3! Also, I think with it just being 2 wheel drive, stage 1-2 is enough really. Wait 6 months and I am sure I will have changed my tune though!

This is why I love forums, thanks mate really appreciated. I will get down to VW this week and order both new side panels. Did you buy the actual switches for the windows as well? As mine are looking a bit tired so I'll change them at the same time. I also need the steering wheel panels as well so I'll order them as well  :happy2:
