I have the Dbilas flowmaster fitted.

It isn't a quiet intake at all.  In fact it is very musical in a harmonica kind of way.  Some people like the sound some don't.
I have also a Dbilas branded heatshield bought through Regal, which I havn't fitted yet.  Saying that, even after a good run, you can pop the bonnet and the metal intake pipe is very cold even above the turbo.  Guess it is down to all the lovely cold air pasting through the pipe keeping it nice and cool.

I had the Dbilas, wanst keen on the odd whistling sound it made.  And wuth DSG threw is into limp mode a couple of times.  Must admin though it did seem to add a little grunt mid-range and like you say the pipe stays cold when I had mine on in the summer months.

Its said there is a fair bit to get from a proper intake on the TFSI but its finding the right one.

Interesting, you've put your catch can over near the battery - did you have enough pipe to do this or got some extra?  Looking at that it should fit with the engine cover too.

Do you fancy doing a review on the BSH PCV and Catch can??  :happy2:

Would be cool to hear your impressions of the system and if you feel any benefits

Will do.  It will be in the morning though as I work nights.  Not got much time right now.

Yes plenty of pipe, got about 6-8" left.

im running the dbilas too ..

didn't think it was too loud, not too noticeable at low speeds but a nice tone produced when throttling it, lower the windows though and you can hear the air getting sucked in, sounds good especially when going through a tunnel

Looks so much tidier with an engine cover imo, even if without the central strip.

Got the Evoms Intake fitted today, was'nt to bad a job, apart from the battle with the turbo inlet pipe clamp.

Sound wise it's not as dramatic a difference as previous write ups on the intake have mentioned.

You can definately make out the sucking noise as the car accelerates and the occasional pfttttt, its like the cars alive and breathing.

Pick-up wise again not sure I noticed any major difference, I took it for a bit of a spin and then checked that all was tight and fixed down, lost a 25mm torx head in my engine somewhere and I can hear the fecker ratting about.  Hope it falls out soon.

No warning lights, no adverse effects, some new sounds to listen to, and another mod added so im happy.

Added my site stickers as well.

So what intake would people recommend for the GTI DSG? I have heard a few people mention that the DSG doesnt take well to aftermarket intakes?

difficult to suggest which one to recommend as they are all pretty similar, i went for dbilas as it draws air from the same place as the oem one does and not from inside the engine like the vf or evoms which will be hotter air, whether this has any benefit at all it is hard to tell though it may become more apparent when or if we get a summer, as heat soak can be an issue.

as for any problems been running mine for 1500 miles now and no problems encountered with the dsg box and surprisingly my mpg seems to have improved so cant complain.

 what problems have you heard?

....

I've never heard of any intake problems due to being DSG. If you think about it, it simply doesn't make any sense! Don't believe everything that some 'expert' on the internet tells you (including me!!).

The filter is an important part of an air intake system.

I run a pretty carbonfibre Carbonio and a mega expensive ITG Competition filter in the oem box : -

I'd have to conduct quite scientific tests to tell you what any improvements are, and you know what the placebo effects are!

My Carbonio intake came with a PiperCross panel filter and someone I know with a Mk5 GTI, who is a highly qualified engineer and whose opinion I respect, told me ITG were the best. The ITG filter is certainly of very robust multilayered construction and fits the 'box' very tightly, so sealing is good - Better quality than the PiperCross which in turn is much better than the standard 'paper' panel. Extremely low maintenance was also a factor in my decision - No additional oiling is ever needed and just an occasional dust off. Also a lifetime warranty.

Don't forget that the VW standard filter gets thrown away and replaced every ?,000 miles when servicing - What does that tell you?

The ITG Pro-filter utilizes the same three layer reticulated polyester foam used on the MAXOGEN air filters. Unlike some of the competition, ITG filters have a massive dust load-up tolerance, which is the ability to absorb a large amount of dust without reducing air flow capacity. With the standard K03 turbo I wouldn't like to say that any performance gains are appreciable without proper scientific testing. However, the manufacturers claim about +2 bhp is possible.

It's also MAF-friendly! And probably more benefit to a remapped car.

If you plan on keeping your car, as I do, then it'll quickly pay for itself by not needing to replace it - 50 squid well spent imo.

VWRacing/RacingLine's 300R GTI runs an oem air intake.

I had a Dblias - worked ok but round town the DSG changes seems to get confused on occasion - went into limp mode twice during this time.

....But what makes you attribute your DSG shift hiccups to the Dbilas?

There were no DSG hiccups, just the way the DSG obviously changes when it wants to I dont think the filter helped

going into limp mode was a little odd but it was obviously down the the filter to a degree as its not done it since.

The DSG in my GTI trips itself up occasionally driving around town as well, both with the current Neuspeed intake and with the OE airbox.  The DSG is controlled by the Mechatronics unit, not the ecu.
