I have asked this question before this is the advice I was given which IMO is correct
1st decat
2nd upgrade breaks
3rd remap
From reading the reviews on here my preference is to go for an r tech remap
I hope this helps

I have a GT TDI 140 myself
Couple of stupid questions coming up ;)

When people say upgrade the brakes , are we talking better discs and pads or going to a GTI 312mm set up ?
Is the GTI setup a straight bolt on ?

changing the brakes was the first thing i did, you will need the calipers, carriers and discs from the GTI, you can normally get these second hand for under £100

On a tdi 140 the caliper itself is the same as a GTI/GT 170, thus you only technically need to change the pad carrier and discs.
The pad is still the same but better to change it with the new discs.

When I did it I changed it all as I didn't want red carriers with factory rusty calipers - was also a good excuse to DIY a brake fluid change.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Im quite shallow and quite fancy a set of red brakes :P
Guess ill have to keep a look out for a full set of Calipers and carriers then , discs and pads are quite easy to come by so they could wait.
