Ban smoking whilst driving...

that's already illegal

I asked a mate about this (Who is a traffic copper) last year and he said in general they pull people over eating crisps/sarnies or drinking from a bottle/can but he would not pull anyone smoking as it would be very difficult to prove he was not in control of vehicle as smoking only needs 1 hand at most, whereas eating/drinking "Generally" requires 2 hands.

The Police cannot even enforce using a mobile phone whilst driving. The number of people I see still on the phone without a hands free beggars belief, how can you expect them to enforce smoking?

....We live in hope.

Yep, it annoys me too to see so many people using mobiles while driving in spite of the law.

Just make smoking banned in public places.

Points don't bother people, fines do.

Caught smoking or on the phone £500 fine. Every time.

....I like your thinking! £500 would certainly make them sit up and take notice.

Probably better if they introduce the £500 fine just for mobile while driving at first. Then all that needs doing is upping the fine (as long as they don't up the £60 for speed).

Actually, points do bother drivers - When I got caught speeding in Belgium my first question was would I get any UK points.

Just make smoking banned in public places.
You'll also have to ban all diesel engines then. A proven cancer link exists from diesel particulates.

this isn't news! medicine has known for a long time that being around burning hydrocarbons is carcinogenic

besides, being in a vague environment where there are diesel fumes is different to the concentrated smoke levels from smoking/being around smokers

Moz must mean that smoking should be banned in public OUTDOOR places, since it's banned indoors.

If I had to choose I'd rather walk through a fug of tobacco smoke than a plume of diesel particulates in an outdoor or 'vague' environment.

i can smoke and drive my car at the same time without problem.

eating again is subjective, eating a roll with one hand is hardly the same as chowing a bucket of kfc on the m25.

i did see one guy taking the total piss by drinking a can of stella while driving down the road in his transit
