well I've definitely been floating around on the site for a while gaining masses of knowledge and even lending a hand here and there and felt its finally time to show off some of my mods over the last 18 months of owning the car.
Before i start id like to say thanks to everyone that has helped me with info and finding how to guides dotted around the site and general internet!
when i first got the car in February 2011 it was very basic, had very little in the way of factory specs but that didn't bother me because generally i tend to fettle, disfigure and defile everything i own anyway! the only thing i wish it had was xenons but I'm sure i'll acquire some eventually.... anyhow this is how it looked from the dealers just up the road from me
the first thing i did was to change the headlight bulbs to some Philips super white dealies which improved the looks and brightness significantly over the crummy yellow ones
then nothing really happened for about 4 months as i was a bit skint and busy. but primarily i put this down to not having found mk5golfgti.... so getting bored and annoyed at the car remaining the same for so long the next thing was to colour code the skirts because i really didn't like that they were bare plastic on such a nice car, i felt it cheapened the look. but i don't feel this with all the golfs there are some colours where it really works well, just not red for me
so after the the bug started to bite... and upon discovering the site i was hooked and the next purchase was a neuspeed P-flow intake bought from TT_Carbon, who is a very nice chap! and also has a damn sexy TT
firstly i managed to satisfy my needs by just painting the covers
but upon finding the intake in the for sale section it currently looks like this;
as it happens the cover is now for sale if any one is interested
I've always been a man of sound and the standard system i found woefully inadequate and fell short of every mark, obviously not every one will agree as they don't like it loud.
but i do
so i went down to Flying Sparks who really know their stuff and i will always recommend them. currently in the front i have a pair of Massive SK Slim's with tweeters replacing the stocks as well (these things are crazy loud and crazy clear and worth every penny)
in the back is a pair of Orion co-axials which give a great clarity and boom. the subwoofer is an Alpine and for not being huge or expensive has surpassed all of my expectations
taking the rear cards out was a nightmare and id advise most people to have it done professionally unless your very competent with what your doing
next was the new head unit being an alpine W202r which was EXCELLENT great value for money, £300 second hand and hugely powerful with nav and bluetooth and also putting the wiring in for the subwoofer
then one day thought the calipers needed a clean :)
after that it went through a quiet patch as i had been saving up to get some cow hide inside and courtesy of Steve i got some and sold my existing interior to another member on here! all the swaps were done on the same day which was very useful and went from this
to these, haven't got any in the car yet mind but they've been there for a good while now
next mini mod! got some of these from the states, I'm sure everyone has seen them for sale on here, i have some left if any one wants them.
next up was VW action at stithians in cornwall (my home county) i believe i saw VC's car looking good in the show and shine also
this was the club i went with who go buy the name of the cornish choppers, not everyone is present unfortunately but they still had an excellent turn out
sorry for the odd photo it was done using a panoramic app
then i colour coded my friends sausage dog
also i forgot to add that at christmas i managed to blah some Valeo LED's from ECS tuning who are excellent to deal with but there was a loooong wait on back order. they kept me regularly updated by email
also the milltek has been fitted in the picture but it needs some adjusting
one of the most expensive cosmetic mods so far was the bonnet notch delete and de-badge'd grill i had the entire bonnet re-sprayed as it was peppered with stone chips. after i had done this i also had the lower grills and vents sprayed gloss black and now it looks the shiz imo
next i had been ogling some porsche replica wheels for months but didn't have the cash floating around for them. i came home one day to help dad with the rally car and he had bought them for me
benefits of working for him i guess, the bonus's aren't half bad! so thanks dad :pomp pomp:
at the same time i had these fitted i also had some Eibach Sportline springs put on and everything was aligned there and then
after that it went quiet for all of like a month and i came across an ED30 MFSW which i HAD to have because for some reason I'm addicted to the red stick... probably because i don't have it i want it
apologies that it was taken last night
now the latest mod has been the boost gauge made by new south and vultured from Weston only took about 2-3 hours at a lazy pace and i would be happy to tell anyone how to do it your self as its dead easy and any one can do it and save £80 odd having a garage do it!
and thats my car up to today! the following are a few pics taken by friends at an open day for a local business specialising in new and used VW parts for older models
and thats everything for now! any input or criticism would be lovely ! i know the car won't be for everyone but i love it!
and finally id like to say thanks to 2K coach works who have done 100% of the paint work on the car and have done a class job and id recommend them to anyone! so much so that they have a permanent spot on the car front and back
