It seems I may be wrong about some performance hardware needing to be added for any significant Stage 1 gains.  :ashamed:

56octyvrs,what was the outcome of your boost leak,reason i am asking is that i have recently had a k04 conversion done and my tuner cant find my boost leak,stating that my car is venting boost pressure into the crank vent,this is after checking and replacing all the usual suspects,boost switch,dv,all replaced new,and has done pressure test all hoses checked its starting to do my head in lol

I may be wrong but one thing to always remember rolling road figures are only to give a therabouts figure. They all make a prediction on what they think the engine is making once they have calculated power loss through the transmission etc. I personally only take whp figures unless the engine has been on a dyno but that's not really cost effective! average dyno figures vary but 230 ish area is the norm and I would say realistic from a stage 1 gti.

Dougie, did your car have a boost leak before the conversion? Who has remapped the car as the fault code might be from the map itself.

i made 239.8 bhp when i had my shark map and the car was totally standard.   :P

Unfortunately it's a well-known fact that rolling-road results are a lottery and there can be huge discrepancies. Tuner's bhp claims are also unreliable.

I agree with said statement... this was on some of the most accurate rollers.

hi redrobin thank you for your reply,yes i have read your topic on boost leak but just wonderd if anyone new the cause of mine,as i am hoping it is not my k04,as to was the boost leak there before the conversion i dont think so car pulled very well,i have a custom evolution map on my car with various other mods itg cai,vwr tbe,new s3 dv,why would it be venting boost pressure through the crank vent down to the sump?the search goes on :surprised: thanks guys for your info

Fuel plays a big part,  a good stage 1 remap with v-power will make around 238-244bhp. The restriction for going over 250bhp on stage 1 is the cats imo.

After looking at 100s of mk5 K03 logs and playing today I have found the limiting factor for stage1 power is pre turbine exhaust manifold back pressure and flow via cats.  At stage 1 the n75 duty can be 100% from 4000-7000rpm and still make 238-243bhp maxed out about the same power window of using 87-90%  duty cycle.   Which is telling me the waste gate flap is being pushed open from the manifold back pressure.

 Now remove pre cat and add around 6-7mm pre load to the actuator and run 80-89% duty at the top end and we have 255-260bhp.. :happy2:  Only issue is that on the intial spool up the boost gose way out of MAP sensor range,  so some work needed doing on the n75 maps to stop the spike.   

I still got lots of testing and logging to do when I get back from Holiday, but I think there is a lot more power to come from the k03 at stage and still be safe.
