Don't realise how good the gti is until it's gone
« on: July 08, 2012, 10:20:42 am »
I dropped my car at VW yesterday to get the front wings replaced and got a brand new 1.4 polo as a courtesy car for the week.

For a brand new car it doesn't feel anywhere near as good to drive as my 6 year old gti, even the seats feel horrible.

And the serious lack of power I had to thrash it just to get up to 70 at a reasonable pace compared to changing up at 2k in the gti.

I can't wait to get my gti back next weekend

Same as me at the mo had the polo a week now it's ok for town driving and mtr way stuff but it needs booting to get upto speed but once up at 70 it's not too bad. Seats are crap too I keep banging my leg on the door grab handle

I keep rubbing my leg on the centre console, have you tried adjusting the mirrors? Switch is back to front

Felt the same when i sold my mk 1 GTI and got a BMW , the same again when sold my VR6 and now got the Edition 30. Won't make the mistake again. Golfs are something more than a car i think they have personality and some kind of emotional tie with their owners , perhaps why its now about 37 years old. How mnay fanufacturers have run "The same name " car for this long  and no sign of it ceasing ?

....I'm so relieved to hear someone else also think that. I was beginning to think that I was turning into a girl.

Like stealthwolf and many other enthusiasts, I've always felt that some machines (including Vulcan bombers!) are living and breathing.

I almost had a mk3 vr6 but the guy decided he wanted more money after we agreed on a price and I paid a deposit, I have had 2 mk4s (1.8gti and a1.9tdi) but never really liked them too much, the mk5 is totally different everything just feels right!

I can completely understand what you mean about the Golf.

The lower powered Polo's have no soul, the Polo GTI however is also a lovely car with soul.

Just look how attached the Hamster got to "Oliver" going across Africa! Some cars have it, some don't.

Golf R gone.

I was recently left out of my GTI for 4 days, but instead I was driving a 61 plate A4 TDI Sline.

I didn't miss my GTI

Other half owns a A4 TDI S Line (11 Reg) and I prefer my Ed30, so each to their own I suppose.

.
Even after a week in a fully loaded S4 Avant I preferred getting back in my GTI. After an hour in a Ford RS which I could have borrowed all day, I couldn't wait to get back in my GTI.

Without a doubt, I'm a big lad at 6'6 and 21 stone, so the GTI seats can be uncomfy after driving for a few hours. Although leg room is ample in the GTI, the dash is a little close to me left leg when on the clutch rest.
