Smoked Headlights

Any ideas for how to do this? My car is back from the body shop and looks mint but I'm thinking smoked headlights would top her off!!

Sweet - is that stuff easy to apply? I've read that it's a right pain

I've not tried it yet but it is made to look pretty easy to do on their youtube video's!  I expect that the most difficult part is cutting it to shape.

Use "fendub"  for  10% off.  

A hair drier was sufficient to help apply the small sheet to my fog lights but I would recommend a heat gun to help apply it to the headlight. I'd recommend doing it off the car too. Although an extra hour removing / re fitting the lamps it will make the actual job easier and probably make a better job of it as a result

I was recently advised the adhesive on the back of the laminX is pretty epic to the point it you stick it to your Wing by accident you may remove a bit of clear coat removing it again   another reason to do it off the car

I done all mine on the cupra with the light smoke, I done it with the hair drier (takes time to get it right) but would advise a heat gun, a real sharp knife is needed for the trimming

You can do it with the lights on but be careful as the backing is very sticky and if your unlucky you could pull some clear coat off,

Here's a reply you won't like so much:

Xenons get hot don't they? Won't this affect any applied film adversely?

And, very importantly, won't a tint darken and reduce the visibility of rear lights and the beam of headlights?

It seems a very stupid mod to do, IMO. It doesn't look cool, it looks cheap and chavvy.

I dont know If the way xenons operate make them cooler or hotter than conventional lights but I'd like to believe that LaminX had put some thought into that when developing.
The only evidence on it being upto the job is the various threads I've seen with it in use and never discussion of any 'melting' or any other kind of problem.  *edit Thinking about it, using it myself on fogs that may get very hot hasn't caused any issues either.

With regards to light output.  I know first hand that the dark smoke tint seems to have reduced the output of my fogs which seems stupid so I've bought some yellow to try which I've read is meant to intensify the light. While still giving a 'style' element.

The light smoke I've seen on Gazs' S3 and Aaron's Cupra and love the effect.  I asked about the light output and both told me it wasn't reduced or not to a noticeable level

....I followed a modified Ford Focus recently which had tinted rear lights (including the third light) - The brake lights and indicators were most definitely badly compromised from a safety point of view. I was glad that I was particularly anticipating his moves. Admittedly they were dark tinted but I think that all aftermarket lights tinting should become a MOT failure.

Light tinting sprays (typically Focus's seem to be the culprits lol) have warnings / labels that they are for show / off road use only.
