RS4 coil packs
« on: July 10, 2012, 09:02:27 am »
i've seen a BT build on another forum where the owner is using RS4 coil packs

doing a little googling i've come up with the only difference being the colour (they are red topped) and don't provide any performance benefit according to some RR tests done by APR on another forum

but then another source states that they might increase longevity - and yet ANOTHER source that says the only difference is the colour, and with them being "E" revision coil packs they'll be worse than the coil packs that were issued in the recall ("F" revision)

what are peoples' opinions/experiences?

I keep both the 'Red' and the 'Black' coilpacks in stock.  Tried them both in the Skoda and found no difference at all.

They do have a different end number, but the full part number is different.  So the latest TFSi coilpack ends in 'F', but the latest RS4/R8 coilpack ends in 'E'.

Red ones worth several horse power when you lift the 'hood' if running no engine cover.

If you never open your bonnet tho they are a waste of monies :P

I was told by a reasonable source that there were higher power output versions (red ones by the way) of these coil over plugs available a few years back that were used in the RS Audi engines.  I subsequently fitted them into a Cosworth YB engine.  Sold it all now so can't quote part numbers.  Anyone heard anything similar ?

Rs4 coilpacks are the same number as the tfsi packs.  Red ones are generally fitted to the r8 and the 2.0fsi a4 with the alloy block.
