got my golf gti today but have trouble already
« on: July 09, 2012, 10:50:01 pm »
today i bought an 06 golf gti with 68k on. It had an airbag fault which i was aware of but after driving to the shops this evening the eml light came on and has stayed on solid now. I have noticed a little bit of black smoke if you rev it hard. I cant comment if the engine sounds like its misfiring because i dont know whats normal with these but i did notice that on a receipt for the cambelt that was changed in feb it said engine light reset for free which makes me wonder.

Anyone got any advice??

Scanning it should provide you with all the answers you need. Pretty hard to know otherwise, might be worthwhile popping in to a local VAG specialist and seeing how much they charge to scan it. They'll more than likely know of any common faults and help you out.

thanks for the help guys, got it code read today and it came up with 2 main ones

01089 evap emmision control system incorrect flow so ive had a search and narrowed it down to the things that can cause that.

p1602 power supply terminal 30 so i reckon the last guy disconnected the battery so thats gone now.

had a play turning the passenger airbag switch on and off as that was what was causing the airbag light and that seems ok now.

only thing unaware of is the auto lights and wipers had a fault which i didnt write down but i have noticed if i put the auto lights on they just stay on all the time which matches the fact it chucked a code up but i dont know what could cause that

I think the auto lights are meant to stay on all the time when switched into auto.

That's wrong. The lights work from a photocell (I think) which measures the environmental light level. They switch on as required and should not be on constantly.

is the photocell in the same place as the rain sensor or is it two different things?

Same place. It's called RLS - Rain Light Sensor.
