With all this rain i think its time i made a smart investment and purchase a water butt. 

So my questions are....

What is the best brand to go for?
What size would be suitable for my needs (main use will be the weekly car wash  and a wee bit of gardening duties to sweeten the deal with the Mrs  )

Also do any have built in pumps (asume i will need a pump)?

Try your local Water authority.

I got mine from Anglia Water, cheaper than anywhere else

Wont need a pump. They usually come with a tap on the bottom. You can buy a base stand for them which will give you enough room to get a bucket under. Get a 250l about £40 from bnq

just check my local water supplier and they have some good deals going on.

so in the world of water butts, do we not have a leading brand to go with or any butt will do?

..........what about  the grit & rubbish washed off the roof/guttering & then going into the water butt?.

Got mine, think its about 200ltr, from Wickes, cost around £40 and is more than big enough for what you need.

Am also happy using rain water on the car!

You buy and inline filter that goes on the end of your hosepipe. Also most pressure washes have a coarse filter so it will be fine. :-)
